Aftermaket Radio

Anyone have any ideas why ...I just got bestbuy to install an after market Cd player and now my antenna won't go up and down when you turn the radio on and off of FM/AM to the CD. It goes up and down now when you turn the car on and off. I thought it was going to work because bestbuy charged me for a new after market antenna adapter. Anyone have any ideas?

sounds like they hooked up the antennas remote lead to the acessory wire instead of to the cd player's antenna output wire...go back and have them correct it, should take those morons like 15 or so minutes to fix....good luck

Best Buy was correct in charging you for an antenna adaptor...you need it to convert the Nissan antenna connection to a typical antenna plug that goes into the back of most head units.

The antenna going up when the car is turned on is a different story. Either they hooked it up to the accessory wire as friendhasmax suggested, or, as is the case with some head units, there is no remote antenna wire signal coming from the head unit, in which case you'll probably just have to live with it. Most high quality HUs have em (Alpine, Eclipse, Clarion, etc), but some of the lower budget ones that can be found at BB (Sony) don't necessarily have them. Which HU did you get?

good point Neptune97, i was in a hurry when i posted before, its possible that there was no remote wire for the antenna on the head-unit, the reason why you needed the antenna adapter was because the factory antenna plug doesnt fit into the head unit plug cause of the diversity antenna system

I'm not sure about JVC, but the only brands to my knowledge that have it's own power antenna wire are Sony, Panasonic, and Alpine. MFGs such as pioneer don't have one, only an amp turn-on which is probably what it is connected to.. Funny they didn't charge the first time for the adapter, it's required to hook up the antenna. You can have them install a switch if you really dislike it, otherwise the only other alternative is to buy a HU which has it's own antenna out
