system troubleshooting

my budget system was bumpin soundin fine for several months until very recently it just started crapping out on me. First off, my drivers side front speaker started getting power surges or something because no music was coming from it, it just started pounding really hard and loud. I was afraid it was gonna blow cuz of how much air it was moving (i could feel the pressure on my leg easily). I don't know what to attribute the problem to. I've been having trouble keeping the female quick disconnects on the speaker terminals (should i use something else for connection??). And the system's been picking a helluva lot more noise now too. The ground for the amp isnt the best, but the engine noise was never this loud. AND it sounds like my crossovers (either external or for the amp) is totally funked cuz there is NO mid-bass or bass coming from my speakers. My woofers aren't even moving for that matter, only thin very low volume highs are coming from the tweeters. I have infinity references (coax in back components in front) powered by profile cl640. I have no idea whether to attribute the problem to the installer (me), the amp, or the speaker. I NEED HELP. the last place i want to go is circuit city roadshop and pay someone to fix my mistakes.

disconnect the amp and reconnect all connections and see if that helps any, if so, you know it was a problem in the install

ok well when i unplug the rca's everything goes away. does this eliminate the possibility of a bad ground and mean i just have to reroute my rcas?
