Is it possible to make a switch for the power antenna?

I have a 95 and my aftermarket head unit makes the antenna go up all the time. Is it possible to make a switch that I can put somewhere in the car that will make the antenna go up or down?

to elaborate, just cut into the power antenna turn-on lead from your aftermarket deck, and install a switch inline. when the switch is open, it won't allow the deck to send a 12v signal to the power antenna relay, and the antenna will stay down. when the switch is closed, it will allow current to flow through it, triggering the antenna relay, and up she goes. just use a simple toggle switch or rocker switch...

most decks only have one switched output, an amp turn on, which will supply 12 volts whenever the deck is turned on. some decks, however, have both an amp turn on, and a power antenna turn on. the power antenna output only supplies 12v when the tuner is on, and it will cut the 12v supply when any other source is selected (cd, satellite, aux, etc.). if your deck only has an amp turn on output, you cannot make your power antenna go up only with the radio unless you install a switch.

OneToughMax is right...but some decks with the separate lead for the power antenna still turn it on all the time...hence it will always be up. Now there is a way around that but it involves ripping the radio apart to find the different signals (radio/cd/tape) but thats way too much work for this. Just use the switch.

You sure about that? That makes no sense...why go thru the extra effort to provide a separate power antenna signal and then not control it based on when the receiver actually needs it.

I believe you, but that's stupid engineering. I know all Alpines have separate antenna leads, and they all only send voltage when the radio is on.

Does anyone know if the Pioneer DEH750MP has separate lead for the antenna power?

My Pioneer headunit has an antenna wire but it has power whenever the HU is on. I would assume the 750 would be the same but don't know. I put a toggle switch in the bottom of my ashtray to control the antenna and love it. You can't tell it is there and I never used my ashtray anyway.

I dunno what to say other than my Alpine CTA-1505 HU keeps the antenna up all the time. Not all deck manufacturerss actually go thru the trouble of making their decks work the way that we would all want...which is with the power antenna only working with the radio.

all mid to high end decks have 2 seperate blue leads in the harness coming out of them.

one is blue, and one is blue with a white stripe.

the power antenna lead is controlled by the deck so that when the radio is on, it puts the antenna up, but if your listening to a cd, it goes down.
