Problems installing new HU

I'm having problems getting a new Pioneer HU installed. Right now it doesn't even light up. Is this a prob with the HU, my wiring (which seems pretty easy, red to red, black to black, etc), or will I have to replace my speakers before it will work?
from faq
In the Bose system, you should not run the Bose speakers off of a aftermarket headunit because the impedence of the speakers are far too low and cause problems. Also, your new headunit/amp will not have the active equalization the Bose had, so it will not sound accurate either. You cannot interface an aftermarket headunit with the Bose's amplifiers either, unless you get something like a SoundGate adapter.

First off, Nissans use the ground from the chassis connected directly to the frame when the radio is mounted. There is no ground lead in the wire harness. You will need to run your own.

The statement in the FAQ should be either edited or removed as it is falsified. No adaptor is "needed" at all for it to work well.

Are you sure this is correct? I just got a wiring harness for my 98 and it most certainly had a ground lead in it.

I am positive this is correct. Ive only done a 100 or so Maximas. The nAFTERMARKET harness will have a ground lead. The FACTORY does not.

The HU wouldn't light up when I used the ground lead off of the aftermarket harness, but when I tried grounding elsewhere on the car it ended up working.
Have any of you done this install? Did you have to run new speaker wire?

the aftermarket harness defenetly have a ground wire but if you look closer when you put the aftermarket plug inta a factory harness where there a ground wire on aftermarket plug there is no ground on factory harness, olso can you an antenn a for a ground but not a good choice.
