New Maxima, got JL W6v2 in H.O. Box - *pics*

I bought a JL High Output box today loaded with a 10" W6v2. Wow!

Compared to the (2) 12" W3's in a vented enclosure I had in my civic... it's close.

Photo Gallery: http://www.auburnextremeracing.com/d...6/FrameSet.htm

http://www.jlaudio.com/enclosures/HO110RW6v2.html#

The original plan was the 12" version of that sub but the box was just too big. This one can be pushed back alot further than the pics show. Noone including myself who has heard the system can believe the amount of sound coming from that 10"! I had to do the mandatory "hey everybody come sit in my car and check this out" today. I asked what ppl thought I had back there and most everybody guessed that I kept the (2) 12's from my civic.

The amp is an MTX Thunder 421D mono. They mounted it on the back of the box. This amp is so small it looks like a toy (9.4" x 9.75" x 2.1"). It works that sub though. After pretty much 3 straight hours of bass tests and rap it didn't cut out once. Here is the MTX page for it:

http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products...hunder421D.cfm

I got the optional bass control **** and it's stealth mounted under the dash. Out of sight, but well within reach. I highlighted it in the last pic of the gallery.

BTW: Everything was $850 installed (and it was a b1tch getting a good signal from the bose system).

i have the same sub, but with a jl 500.1 mono amp, and it sure beats for one 10. I had the same problem getting that good signal from the bose, it was messing everything up for a while.

heh

If I had seen the amp and not just its spec sheet there is no way I would have bought it. Not sure how it does it, but the amp puts out a good bit of power. Actually I do know how they do it (EE / CE major) but it's still impressive.

when we did my install on my bose we spliced into the pre amp signals coming out of the head unit, they are line level not speaker level, and it worked out perfectly

Well... They did tap into the speaker wire before it got to the amp on the rear speaker. Anything after the bose amp was garbage.

One thing. I've got alternator whine. It's not enough to bother me. The only time you will hear it is with HU on but turned all the way down, revving the car in neutral (or idling). My solution so far has been to turn the HU off in my neighborhood, then just listen at reasonable volumes once I leave the entrance.

yea mtx amps are sick .. small package extremely large amounts of power, i had an mtx 2400x and it was no more than 13 inches wide and it put lout a good 800 rms bridged, 300 x 2 4 ohm, i love it

as far as the whine, have you checked to see if ur signal cable and power cable are overlapping anywhere? also if your speaker wires are over lapping the power wire anywhere? that could easily cause you're problem and could easily be fixed good luck

Nice setup man. I've been thinking about buying a jl audio 12w6v2, but I may go with the 10 like you for space reasons. How much did the sub and the JL box cost you? I already have a JL 500/1 and it's installed, just need a sub.

Hello, & welcome to last year They have been out for quite some time.

ScarfaceTHX: At how many ohms do you have this thing hooked up to? as for the H.O. box... how exactly is it high output? another word for ported? but I dont see any ports.

I know you said its enough power, but if its a sealed box with 400rms...I dont know. Ported though,400 is enough. Effeciency is picked up quite a bit when a box is ported.
One of the craziest setups with those subs ive heard of is a 4.5ft box, with 3 w6v2 12's powered by a 400w amp. Its in a ported box tuned to 32hz, but it will hit mid 140's. Power rating is severly overrated IMO.

notice there is like a "chamber" of sorts in front of the woofer? that acts sort of like a port for lack of a better word, and that increases output a bit

I wish I could listen to bass oriented music for 3hrs, but If I got it turned up... im "kinda" used to mine but for some1 who isnt used to it, they'd be lucky to make it 1 full song

Let's see. It cost $850 installed. "High Output" is JL's designation, not mine: http://www.jlaudio.com/enclosures/HO110RW6v2.html Sub is wired to 2 ohm.

Yes these boxes have been out forever, but noone seems to know anything about them. It's a vented enclosure engineered for each specific woofer by their own design team.

As far as the OH NO3S!!! 3 hours of bass music@!!! ---- Been there done that. Just my way of christening a new car.

The stereo in my civic was about as loud as it could be without causing physical damage to passengers. I had the box made to accomodate (2) 12" W3's and each side was vented.

Here is an OOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD video with my digital camera:

http://www.auburnextremeracing.com/d...ke_se/subs.avi

Complete chaos at 75% volume with a song off the radio.

The new 10" is no match SPL wise but it hits plenty hard considering I just have one 10" mid-grade JL.

/ginsu knife salesman

What if I told you I hit high 140's with the seatbacks up with JUST (2) W3 12"'s????

Seriously. 145+ db, 2 12", 8302 2-Channel Amp

The front and rear int speakers had their own amps as well.

Im sure it sounds pretty good, but still $850 for a sub/box installed
Its still overall a nice setup As for the box, looks like its ported...that explains a lot.

On a side note, ive been having problems picking up sarcasm as of late so bare with me

Physical damage, your talking 150+ db. Im sure your W3's were fairly loud but I still have a hard time beliving it was capable of 150's. I was having a hard time breathing at 150db the 1st time I felt/heard it. Your mirror was still attached to your windsheild man, comon

That's with the d class amp and remote bass control wired into the factory bose that is next to impossible to get a decent signal from.

Again that was just the radio at 75% with back seats up, and the mirror in my civic was never attached to the winshield to begin with.

lol to say the JL H.O. boxes are ported... yes they are.... but I cannot stress how good the H.O. enclosures are without hearing it in person. Believe me - If you heard my car roll by you would not guess that I had a 9"X9" amp powering a 10"!!!! That is the point. If I wanted SPL I'd empty out my checking acct and find a way to fit (4) 15"'s, but i like the trunk space and my hearing is damaged enough.

Understood, I know what you mean

Its a strange design to say the least, in a way it may even be classified as a odd looking bandpass doesnt really look the par but oh well.
Ive heard the w7, but no it wasnt in that box.
As far as trunk space goes, yeah im kinda lacking in that area. 15's (even a single) take up a considerable amount of room, especially ported.

Hearing damage, that reminds me I need to relax on the volume ****. I know its awesome to **** loud, but one thing ive learned is its pretty hard to restrain yourself from going to too loud. I try to keep bass at a san level, but I find myself cranking it to stupid levels too often.

I may just have to re-consider the setup down the road...

You seem to know more then you lead on man

All models use our patent-pending, chamber-coupled port design. The slot-port wraps around the inner enclosure and terminates just above the woofer.

What's "chamber-coupled" ?
