No Power to my amp

i just recently installed my amp kit and everything should be in right spots. howeverim getting no power. all fuses are fine. ground is connect to my rear strut brace bolt with the paint on the car sanded off for a good metal-to-metal connection. personally i think the only problem is gonna be with my remote wire.

i had my alpine cd player installed by circuit city and there are 2 sets of blue wires. one is connected and one is not, and neither set is labeled anywhere what they are.

on my first hook-up i connected the remote to the set of blue wires that are connected and it didnt work, (also when i disconnected these wires nothing changed with my radio. i always thought if remote was not connected it would affect the headunit and/power power source to it.). 2nd try i connected it to the 2 that were not connected and that did not work. and finally i connected to the yellow 12v constant and that did not work.

am i over looking something or what?

please someone help me, ive been trying to figure this out for a week now.

Is your head unit working correctly? Are the blue wires on a adapter harness or on the alpine unit? One easy way to find out which one it is, is take a circuit tester (or multimeter) and hook it up to the wire with all power off. Then turn on your ignition and if the light lights or the multimeter gets a reading, that will be the wire you want.

I'm looking in my Haynes manual right now, and for your 1997 the remote (AKA antenna wire) should be a black/red wire. Try hooking up your remote lead going to your amp to that wire, and it should work.

Good luck

ok, i just tried about everything and i get power when i just connect it to the red wire which is my positive battery power for the head unit. is that bad for the amp or headunit or anything else back there? or should that be ok???

Do not connect your remote wire to your battery wire!!!!! There is a good chance that you have already damaged your amp by testing all those different wires. You need to check your power wire and remote wire again from beginning to end. You could have cut them by accident while replacing your runners ( I have done this before) back along the floor of your car. Make sure that all wires are in tact all the way through the car. If none of the blue wires on the back of the HU are not turning your amp on then you can hook the remote wire up to the signal wire on you speaker amp (that is if you have BOSE). If nothing happens then, you need to take your car somewhere any let them test your amp.

A word of advice...If you don't know amplifying wire skematics, ask someone before you start connecting stuff. Something as simple at 2 wrong wires can cost you a lot more than just an amp or a HU. Short circuits do happen in cars too and so do electrical fires.

well hookind the amp turn on wire to the battery wire will give the amp constant power. i don't know the long term affects but i am sure it will kill your battery.

actually, the amp light turned off when i shut my car off. it acted the same as if it was connected to the real remote wire. the constant yellow wire gave constant power to amp even when car was off.

oh ok. then this setup will not give you any problems. the remote turn on wire will keep the amp on only when the stereo is on. the ignition wire will turn the amp on whenever the car is started. so if this doesn't bother you than go for it.

If I remember correctly the blue with white stripe wire coming from the Alpine unit is the remote wire for the amp. The solid blue wire should be connected to your power antenna. If not then it is reverse, but I'm pretty sure this is right. One way to tell once it is wired up is to turn on the radio to see if the antenna goes up, if not then you have the wiring backwards. Make sure that your remote wire that runs through the car is not pinched or a screw is through it. What kind of amp is it?

So your main problem is that your amp is not turning on? (assuming they are getting power from your battery ie power cable not damaged)
