2 KICKERS L7 10"
ive heard the only sound good in big ported boxes but i heard 1 12" l7 in a sealed box and i didnt think it sounded bad. try posting on sounddomain in the kicker section, they might know better than i.
For sound quality go for a sealed enclosure. You can get nice sound with the 10's if you put each of them in a 1 cubic foot enclosure. I have one 12 L7 in my car in a sealed box, it has been in there for years, and still sounds nice.
From what I understand, they have given the back of the cone a little more structural support, as well as the actual cone itself(This supposedly is better at higher sound levels). But as far as actually sounding different I do not know. The basket looks pretty nice, but I do not care about that, as it is installed in a box. I have the original L7, the one that is all black, and that thing is still going strong. I may take a trip to the audioshop and test one of the new L7's out.
That is why I prefer sealed enclosures. I am not sure about the L5 but for the L7 you can get really nice sound out of it if you use a sealed box. They have a range for the sealed boxes. The 10" for example will give you a little more impact with a .66 enclosure. If you use the bigger enclosure you will get a flatter frequency response, as well a a little more low end extension (with the 1 cubic foot enclosure). You can also play with the size of the enclosure to match your needs.
