Making a floor

I have some ideas for a new floor. Mt sub currently sinks into the spare tire well sinc the cardboard is shot adn also the carper moves around so I'm going to make a new floor out of mdf. I want easy access to my spare so what doe ewveryone think about cutting a squre out in the middle and then putting hinges on it so i can open the middle to my spare. Would this be easy to do?

I have actually thought about doing this for a while, but have not had a chance to do it. I am sure it will require some time, but nothing too difficult.

I am in the process of making a custom trunk right now. I'm doing it as a dual layer. This way I can fit a full siz spare (old stock wheel) as a spare when needed and also have hidden compartments on the side of the spare to store amp and other stuff. Also going to make it so sub won't slide around.

Now I have the subs sitting on them

Your box look's really tall. How did you get that to fit with the ,etal trunk pieces that go across?

Any fabric store should carry it. It's just black vinyl. Walmart has it too. Make sure you use professional grade spray glue and a heat gun when you apply it.
Cost about $4-5 a sq yd.

has anyone ever done a wood floor, like bamboo or parque (basketball court-looking)? I'm thinking about this for my trunk, laying some parque tiles on top of MDF board, with a LOT of wax and sealant applied to the top. I think it would look pretty cool. If anyone has pictures of this done in a trunk, post them. Thanks!

hehe yeah that's where i saw it, thought it looked pretty good. Seems like it would be pretty easy too, especially with those wood floors that just piece together. I saw some parque squares at home depot that looked easy to work with.

Question for you guys with the floors, what did you secure them to so it doesn't bounce up and down on bumps? I need to make a new floor and was concerned about the floor flying around.

I wouldnt think a floor would move around, I mean they dont secure the trunk mat to anything, and that doesnt move around. As long as its not super lightweight, or if you've got a sub sitting on it, it should be fine.

Since the floor is not perfectly flat, I did not make the floor co all the way to the back seats. It goes up to the hump and stops. The box is close to 16" tall. In fact, .25 more and it would not have fit.
