CD Player not functioning

This week my CD player stopped working. I can't insert a CD - it goes in half way, then makes a "ticking" noise. When the CD is removed, the icon says that a CD is still in the player, and it continues to "tick." Touching the removal button does nothing, it continues to "tick." Switching to the radio and back makes the icon and ticking go away.

The radio works fine. All other controls on the steering wheel and dash work fine. The rest of the car is immaculate.

Has anyone run into this before? Is the CD player a gonner, or is it fixable? Is there a good repair place in northern NJ other than the dealr to take care of this, as it is out of warranty?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

C430

CD Player Not Working

Sorry no answer to the problem - but my 02 SE just did the same thing.
Err code 3 shows up in the display but so far I haven't found a translater for err code 3.
Was just wondering if you found out what the problem is?

Have you tried helping the cd into the cd player? like as its ticking push it in more? Maybe just a temp. fix until you get a new one...

I have tried guiding the new CD into the slot, but I will not force it. My son thinks there may be another CD in there - difficult to say, there is very little space to take a peek. If that is the problem, perhaps a tweezer could pull it out.

I did notice that the plastic fascia over the CD player looks like it might come off easy - but I am hesitant to do this until I hear a little more about the subject, and how to put it back on.

Also, I am considering the purchase of a shop manual (not the ones in Pep Boys), since I intend to keep this car for 200,000+ miles.
