Mounting hardware? (installing radar detector in a 3rd gen)

I'd like to mount my Bel Vector 940 above my mirror like here:
http://2k2maxima.freewebspace.com/catalog.html

However, i don't think I can mount it directly onto my mirror like (s)he did (too heavy for the third gen mirror). So I've already decided to fabricate an abs plastic shelf I can mount the detector to upside down with velcro and then invert the LCD display (this has the added benefit of giving the rear radar sensor a clearer view out the rear windshield). I'd hardwire it to the maplight (I take my detector off it's mount and unplug it everywhere I go anyway, no worries about the power) My problem is that I want to attach this shelf to my center mirror support, but I don't know how to do it and keep the detector level.

Does anyone have any mounting hardware suggestions?

My dream solution would have a clamp (so it's removable), and a ball joint I could use to level the shelf. The mounting hardware also can't be very big since the space between the mirror and headliner isn't very large on the 3rd gen. The slope of the windshield doesn't make the included I wouldn't know where to start looking for this piece in a home depot or car electronics place.

TIA,

Jeff
PS> I don't see an inline fuse in the pictures of the above-linked install...why not? My detector's cig. lighter plug has a 1A fuse in it, so I assume I would need a 1A inline fuse if I hardwire it (like I'll also have for my sirius PNP).
