is it the amp, the HU, or the install?

when I first turn my SE-R on, the speakers make a "thunk" sound before the music plays.

is it the old Pioneer DEH-M990DSP cd player

the old Alpine 3527S amplifier

or a bad ground (install)

thats more than likely your head unit, leaking power.

Sounds like amp turn on/off "thump". Could be built into the amp's circuitry. Most amps have a "quiet" turn on, but sometimes you may get a "thumping" sound if not properly grounded.
