Has anyone ever attempted this? How would you go about this?

The metal at the very tip of the charger is power. The 2 pieces of metal on either side of the charger are ground. Tap into the ignition wire off your radio, or the wire off a cig. lighter for the power...ground can be any metal. If it were me, I wouldnt want to cut the wires of the charger in case I ever wanted it again, so I would just wrap the **** out of it with electrical tape around the outside of it. You can either do that, or figure out which of the two wires is which, cut it, and connect it with either solder or a connector. Sometimes there are resistors or fuses in the cig lighters though , which is another reason I would leave it on and just tape the ignition and ground to the outside of it real tight.

yeah hack it up. otherwise, you can go to radio shack and pick up a female cig lighter receptacle with a pigtail on it, and you can plug your cell phone adapter into it and hardwire that. that's ghetto though - i say cut off the plug and hardwire it...
