Good question They are good subs, no argument there, but the only thing I dont like about diamond is the BL is higher then needs be. You can get a better sub for the $, they are overpriced IMO.

the reason crutchfield doesnt sell them is because they dont sell over the internet. i have all diamond and i like it better than most things ive heard. ive had Type R's, JL's and even audiobahns<crap) and the diamond i had before this was better than them all. the one now im getting is their TDX and ive heard it in a max before and its insane. great subs, great amps, and personally, the best components.

Crutchfield doesn't have the greatest selection of car audio equipment, they sell commercial mainstream lines- and high end companies restrict their products from being sold online to avoid piracy, refurb equip to be sold as new, and joe internet schmoe from downselling dealers and offering no warranties-which can harm a companies reputation

2DaMax,

If you haven't realized it by now I'm partial to JL audio. So thats what I would recommend you buy. I've posted several times about the different brands I've owned before & I have to say IMHO there excellent. I once owned a pair of JL audio 12W6 (the originals) & those damn speakers lasted well over 5yrs. I never had a single problem with them, they always sounded great. When I finally decided to sell them I was able to get $300 bucks for them, I including the box. And the guy I sold them too still has them & they work great. There not as pretty as they used to be when I owned them but they still function. Until I own another set of subwoofers that can take the amount of abuse I put into those things my hearts set on JL. I don't know what other way to explain it other then I consider JL audio lifetime equiptment. By the time you "decide", note key word "decide" to replace your subwoofer(s) they have well paided for themselves. So basically your decision to replace them is pretty much because you want to not because you have too. Thats just my feelings about them. There are other brands I like also, but nothing has proven to me there as durable.

Well let me put it like this. First of all the information you got is coming from a female. Not that I am racist against females, any female that is down with stereo equiptment is cool with me. But honestly, common man? Thats like asking a dude's advice about high heels & make up. I think the only thing that harms JL's rep is the fact that the are alittle pricey. But isn't the good stuff always alittle more expensive then the average equiptment? Also if all you have been hearing are RF, Audiobahn, Alpine & Kickers then I got big news for you. None of those subwoofers can hold a candle to a JL. From what I've been reading & hearing lately is the other brands that are comparable to JL's are Brahma's, Diamond, Eclipse & a few others I can't think of at the moment. I'm sure someone will eventually read this post & add a few more brands.

Those are a few of the best but Im not going to add much more then that.
Adire Audio, Resonant Engineering. Both are worth looking into, in terms of either SPL or SQ or a combo of both, both offer some damn nice products to suit your needs (actually beyond your needs ).

I also owned a JL mine was a 15w3d2. I tell you the truth when I say that it pounded like no other. I pushed it with a 1000 watt amp and it rocked!!! Forget those ghey xplods, get some JL's. I rocked mine for over 2 years with no problems at all. When I say rocked I mean it, I shook my little Ford probe apart with it. Trust me, YOU WILL NOT RIP A JL APART!!!"

all I have to say is Resonant Engineering. Hand made subs, you can only get from distributors, or factory direct, not on the internet. At this one sound off local to me, a guy with the 12" SE version RE sub destroyed this w7. Wasn't even close, they both had sealed boxes. 1200W, and still goes through all the octaves without the least bit of trouble. Simply amazing

The XXX is by Resonant Engineering or RE...bad a$$ subs. JLs are nice but way overpriced. Like others have mentioned, look into Adire, DD, RE, Image Dynamics, etc. There are plenty of alternatives to JL. After all, how many SPL vehicles use them? Also decide on what you are going to power them with. Chances are that guy in the Navi has a whole bunch of power.

well i know the 1200W sub from resonant engineering is $180+shipping factory direct. The XXX is a 2500W sub, so I guessing anywhere up to double that because they are freakin amazing subs.

Call them at (702) 896 4823. If you have a dealer in your area, then they will give you the contact information. The price will be set by your dealer. If not, then you can buy them factory direct. They also have multiple product line. The lower RE line is a very good value. Their XXX line is one of the best using XBL^2 technology from Adire Audio. They also have a few lines in-between to accomodate all different price points.

Adire Audio was also mentioned. They are another of the lesser known sub maker. The top of the line Brahma series use a low distortion motor (magnet and voice coil) called XBL^2. I haven't heard one but reports say that it's one of the cleanest sounding subs on the market. What sets them apart from RE, Adire's mid line (Koda Series) also uses XBL^2. Their lowest line is one of the best bargains in audio with the Shiva and Tempest.

Adire is more a research company. They manufacture very few drivers for sale. They will build some special order ($$$) ones if you are willing to pay. They get the Shiva and Tempest from Eminence Manufacturing, who is one of the oldest driver manufacturer in the US. The Brahma and maybe the Koda are manufactured by Destijl Engineering. If you look up the address for Destijl and RE, they are the same. That's one of the reasons they use Adire's technology in RE subs. I finally get to my point. These are small companies but they are passionate about audio. It's not uncommon to find the CEO of Adire posting on Home Theater sites. You aren't going to find that type of service or commitment with the big boys.

What about a Koda 10...avail for the low low price of 229.00 from http://www.adireaudio.com/Merchant2/...gory_Code=2000

I've only ever seen one but I hear they are great, or you can step up to a Brahma for 349.00. The others that I mentioned don't have published online prices.

yo 2DMax how much coin you willin to spend anyway?

Ill keep this thread jack relativley short

Lets just say its enough to flex the entire car...& break a few things in the process
Perhaps "destroy" is kind of an exaggeration, but im 100% sure that I can roast the VC's til the sub is no longer functional. Thats w/o changing anything in my setup. Shouldnt take too long. Actually, that would be kinda fun, just to see how long another sub can last.

The subwoofer debate can go on & on & on. It doesn't always take the best equiptment or big $$$ to make something sound good. I once helped my friend build a system in his Integra & we hooked up (6) 8" Radio Shack DVC woofers to a JBL 500 X 1 mono amp & it was insane. His system produced just as much bass as my 2 JL W6's & I was running 500w to each one. And no, my system wasn't hooked up worng, my box wasn't sh!tty or anything like that. The only difference was I had more money in my equiptment. There are tons of different brands of subwoofers (known & unknown) that work great. Just buy something that fits your budget & make the best of it. I promise you'll be happy...

I agree with the JL experience. I have had my 3 10W3's in my car for over four years now and they continue to rock on. They are wired at 1 Ohm and are powered by a Xtant 1001 that puts out approximately 333 watts RMS to each 250 watts RMS sub without a problem so far. The car hits 143 db which is pretty loud for what I have. Go to a dealer and negotiate a price, most dealers that sell JL often sell below MSRP. For your situation a W3 or W6 will be much better because the wattage needed for the W7 will cost you huge bucks.

Yes, they are expensive; No, they are not indestructible.
