I have a 1500 watt amp on six 12's with one 1 farad cap and my alternator went out im guessing that this is too much power for the alternator to handle. my question is does anyone make a stronger alternator or should i just keep adding mor caps.

have you upgraded your battery? you need at least one more cap and the biggest battery you can find. my system runs about 1100W RMS and I have never had problems with my charging system at all- but then again, I've got a huge battery and 1F cap in the trunk.

Also, what size cable are you running to your amps. you need to be running at least 2awg for that much power. anything smaller will cause problems- which could lead to premature death of your alternator.

But no, you don't really need a bigger alternator unless you're going to add a lot more stuff.

When you say larger battery, how do you determine what a larger battery is? I think I need a new one.

The only reason for a larger battery is to run the stereo with the car turned off. A larger battery requires the alternator to run more, not less. So if you want to preserve your alternator get the smallest battery that will start the car and charge the caps. With 1500 Watts you probably need at least 1.5 farads, but I would round up to be on the safe side. But I do agree on the larger wireing. Also, alternators are known to die due to natural causes after 100,000 miles and 1-2 decades.

Battery

You also might want to try the Yellow top Optima battery... a lot of stereo installers recommend them because have a higher output than most batteries. They also last longer than most conventional batteries. Or so i've been told...

How did you fit 6 12s in a Maxima? What kind of subs are they?

I have also seen numerous people recommend Optima batteries with no facts to back up the claims. Go to any Trak Auto or Sears and look at the CCA and reserve capacity of the common lead acid batteries and you will see the only larger spec of the Optima is the price.
