Another Bose question

So...
My amps are dead (3 out of 4 are, the 4th is on its way out). I want to replace the system. I dont really have the cash to replace the speakers as well right now. SInce the Bose speakers have lower impedance than the head unit is designed for, I was wondering if I could get a new head unit and run the two left speakers off the left front channel, in series, and likewise for the two right speakers. I realize that it wouldnt sound uber great, but it should be a huge improvement over the one half-dead speaker I have now. Down the road I would get some decent 4s and a pair of 6x9s.

Would it work? I know wiring would probably be somewhat of a *****.

The bose speakers..if you take the amps and crap off...and just run wires to them you can just run them off of a head unit. I did that for a while. Stole my friends old bose stuff and installed them 2 hours after i bought my car.

Really?I was told that the lower impedance Bose speakers would overload the headunit's internal amp. I suppose it would be safe as long as I dont crank the volume all the way up.

2 Da Max: The factory Bose setup in a 1989-1994 (dont know about other years) has an amp on each speaker. An aftermarket headunit has the speaker-level amp built in. The factory bose amps die, leaving me with a worthless system that still has half-decent speakers but no way to drive them.
