3ohm sub into amp?

I am looking to purchase a sub(6ohm) in a box(wired to 3ohm). Now how can I hook that up to an amp that takes either 4ohm, 2ohm, or 1ohm?

why does it have to be 3ohms? so it could push hard without buring up a 4 ohm amp?

an amp's power output is based on the load that it is trying to push. For example, an amp that runs 100x2(4ohm),200x2(2ohm) will probably push around 150x2 into a 3ohm load. If it is just the one sub, make sure your amp is capable of a 2ohm load into into one channel. You could try it with a 4ohm stable amp, but it might burn out the amp or amp's protection circuit as the load is a smaller impedance(resistance) than the amp is designed to handle.

Basically it's an Aubiobahn AlumQ12 6ohm sub. Since it's in an enclosure they wired it to 3ohm. I'm trying to figure out what ohm(s) should the amp be to safely power the sub. Here's a link... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

Okay I think i understand, but it would help if I had a diagram of how to hook it up to an amp. Would it be possible to hook it up to a mono amp @ 1 ohm?
The speaker has RMS wattage of 1000.

to a mono amp = yes

at 1 ohm = no

you don't actually set the amp at any specific ohm setting. What ever you hook up to it is what it runs at. For example, you have a box set up to run at 3 ohms on 1 channel. No matter what amp you use, it will run at 3ohms on that one channel. If you wanted to use an amp at one ohm, you would need two 2ohm subs instead of two 6ohm subs. 3ohms is what you're stuck with. If you would like me to try to explain it to you over the phone. I can send you my number in a PM. Just let me know.
