Stering Wheel controlls Question.

I have a 1999 Land Rover Discovery and I have steering wheel controlls for my factory stereo. I would like to put an aftermarket headunit in the car, but I do not want to lose my stering wheel controlls.

Can someone tell me if this is possible and what needs to be done in order to do this?
Thanks for your help everybody!

Yes, it is possible. What you'd need is a PAC SWI-X.
Basically, what it does, is change the steering wheel controls into infrared (what remotes transmit). You would need to tap into the steering control wire(s) (in back of the headunit), find switched power and ground. Then you'd program the steering wheel buttons in conjunction with the new headunit's remote.
You'd also need to mount the IR emitter somewhere. I did mine in my center console, facing the HU.

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I have a 96 I30 and Alpine headunit. Is there a way to add this feature easily to my car? Just curious. Thanks again!
