Car Alarm and Security - Viper 791xv

Hi,

I am considering a car alarm for my 2002 ... and thinking of the Viper Viper 791xv...what options should i get.. I am thinking of adding a remote start, plus a couple or sensors...which ones should i consider? is there one available for protecting the HID lights?

thanks - Noela

Alarm might scare the thief away but if they really wanted your HID headlights, they will steal it.

For the alarm, I suggest getting extra battery and extra siren. If you want to protect your wheels, get tilt motion sensor.

Sup Noela

I have a 2002 Max and im getting the Viper 791XV installed next saturday.
The remote start is already included in the package. It also comes with shock sensors. The other option im considering is a proximity sensor.
Im planning to get the LED that comes with the package on the rear deck so its visible thru the rear windshield. On the front i asked Don to get me a LED Scanner (the kind where the LEDs flash from left to right and right to left) Im a gadget freak... can ya tell? haha

http://www.directed.com/security/vip..._responder.asp

Don (pearl96max) on this org is the one whos installing it for me. I've heard so much about him. He has installed stuff over a 100 Max's and i've talked to him three times already and i really wanted him to do my alarm... so im driving from Boston(i live there) to Edison, NJ just so i can get his expertise on the job. Once i am back after i get it done im spreading the word about my him to my big circle of friends who have BMW M3's M5's, Mercedes's and many other souped up cars! Im like the one with the stock car setup among them!

yeah, don did mine and i love it. especially moving into an apartment, i like the 2 way functionality of the alarm. shock sensor works great, range is excellent until you start gettin inside large buildings or your battery starts goin down. i would say goin down to don is more than worth the trip, plus its not every day that an installer lets you watch them install the product, ask questions, etc. the only thing i can really think of would be the best deterent, since if they want the lights, they WILL get them, is to make the alarm so god damn loud that they just run away from the sheer rediculousness of the noise. im really thinkin about that...maybe 2 or even 3 more sirens, the horn honking, lights going of course, and maybe get some strobes and have them wired onto it too.

I like the idea of a proximity sensor, with several extra loud sirens!! Is the proximity sensor adjustable for range/distance? If so, what is the range? Combined with shock sensors, tilt sensors, back up battery, and extra loud sirens, this alarm system should be significantly better than our factory alarm.

Yep, guys...... i alreade IMed with Don, and he is willing to do it and i will also do the drive from Baltimore to get it done.... now is (1) proximity sensor what triggers alarms as you get closer or as other cars drive by....what is the usual sensitive and safe distance (2) why do you need second batteries for...where is it usually installed, and what are the electrical implications or complications?

thanks - Noela

2nd battery keeps the alarm active when your car battery cable is cut. Only thing is, when you are working on electrical in your car, you have to disconnect that extra battery as well as negative terminal on your car battery. Just make sure you know where that extra battery is hidden.

Well, only you should know where that location is. Aren't you getting your alarm installed by Don? He'll tell you where he put that backup battery. I bought my alarm through Don.

Do you know how much Viper GPS Tracking System? Would be a very nice combination GPS + 791VX...

Is that right that 791VX includes all the features of Viper, except Vehicle Recovery System?

What's the difference between Viper 791VX and Python 881XP (http://www.directed.com/security/pyt..._responder.asp)??? Is there any?

sorry it took so long for me to get back to you Noela. whatever shock sensor i have are the ones that came with the 791, nothing extra. a proximity sensor would be good if you had a house, but an apartment would be nuts, it would go off every 10 minutes.

IIRC, the Viper GPS was basically like buying another 791, maybe more, it was pricey, and despite the cool factor, it wasnt for me.

nnow it makes sense to me..... i always remember those cars parked on the streets, with the alarms going off so frequently - that would be annoying...so in my case, it wouldn't be worth it -- but can i add it later when i move into a house - a couple of years still to go

thanks - what about a tilt - sensor - that would be ok?

/Noela

Casey...havent I taught you anything? GPS is nothing like the alarm, and the proximity sensor actually works quite well... Gimme a call later on...

your right, i worded it poorly. i meant the price of the GPS is high enough that it would almost be like buying 2 alarms.
