this is the system in the car now..
kenwood krc-701 hu (it's couple of years old now..)
pioneer DEQ-9200 dsp

front:
Focal polykevlar 165k2 powered by
kenwood (KAC-744, same age as the hu) 4 channel bridged to 2 channel (rms 110x2)

rear:
kenwood kappa 63i powered by fosgate punch 60ix

sub:
12" kicker bandpass powered by prestige

the focals are installed in the factory location on factory plastic baffle. tweeter is in the black triangular piece behind the side mirror(mirror location.)

question:
the sound quality is adquate now, but i believe the focal still have rooms to grow. so, what should i do to further improve overall sound quality to the next level? both clarity and sound. Highs are nice and clear, mid-bass is a little disappointing b/c it doesn't have the solid bass feeling as the stk *crap* papercone speaker.
so, what should i do?
1.) get a better amp for the focal?
2.) build a baffle using mdf to replace the factory plastic one? (will it make a difference?)
3.) put some dynamat (just a little piece, not whole door) behind the focal (to improve mid-bass more)??

thank you for ur feedbacks!!!

Basically, all three should be on the list.

I'm running my 165KS (same model but 1 year older than yours) with 200W RMS to the mid and 50W rms to the tweet.. dual amp system obviously.

But I had to compeltely reinforce the doors, build an MDF pod to mount it in, AND dynamat the door with a couple layers before I got good bass response out of it.

After that, I jsut went all out and built sealed enclosures inside the doors for them.. sounds even better now. Many people think I've got an 8" under the front seat or that I'm running subs all the time. usually when I do SQ competitions, I'll jsut turn the subs off or -24dB and play the focals full-range up front.

Also check to make sure the front and back of the midbass driver are isolated.. if there are any holes in the metal on your door or pod within 12" of the speaker, they should be sealed or covered over in dynamat. you'll see a huge improvement by just doing that.

hope that helps.
