MTX 801D mono amp + kicker L5 15" 2ohm not kicking enough

i recently installed a MTX 801D mono amp + kicker L5 15" on a ported box.

everything else is stock bose, including the head unit.

i don't know if it's me or the system, but i'm kinda dissapointed at the results.

i wanted a strong hitting bass when i listen to rap, but instead i get a helluva lot of rattling, i mean the whole car starts to shake, i tried playing with the amp gain, but too low gives me no punch, and too high gives me some punch but way too much rattling, i mean my steering wheel starts to shake so bad, is not funny.

would a aftermarket HU give me more punch with less rattling?
or is it supposed to be like this....

You definitely need to look into sound deadening. Look at this http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=352271 for suggestions on which kind.

if you want a more punchy bass then I'd put that thing in a sealed box. either way, i'd look into some sound deadening like sublime suggested. seems like you hear more rattles than your bass.

how big is this ported box and tuned to what? id probably put it in a sealed box with all that power you have for it.

When i was shopping around for a box for a 12 i used to have.....i found that the same sub in 3 different boxes (sealed & ported & bandpass) with the same amp sounded waay different. I ended up getting a bandpass for my particular application, but i would suggest the same as the others have. Change the box and see what results you get. You usually get "cleaner" thump from a sealed box.

well, the box is a cheap one i got from ebay for 30 bucks..........

as for sound deadening......that way too advanced for me, i'm so sloppy at cutting and installing anything, i always mess up with anything sticky.

what the difference between all 3 box types?

Well, changing the box to give more bass than is already present, seems as if it might create more rattles in the process. Try a different box, but it sounds like youve got a lot of rattling going on, which will be fixed with deadening. If you are that bad at it, get a friend to help you, or get a professional place to put it in.
