Antenna suggestions....please read!

I installed a flexible, black antenna, one of the universal ones since I didn't wanna replace the whole antenna motor assembly, but the wire from the antenna and the wire heading up to my radio don't fit together.
Can I just snip the ends of these wires off and splice them like interior stereo wiring, or is there a process somewhat more involved?

Thanks,
Lou

Ok, to give a little better description, I was told that if the antenna wiring and the wire from the previous antenna didn't match (as in the connecting pieces), that I'd have to run an extension of the new antenna's wire to the headunit. Is there a reason why I couldn't take off the connectors and put the 2 wires together so I can use the previous wiring?
