Getting AVIC-N1 installed in a few weeks!

My car has kilometer gauges, will this effect the speed sensor? Should I change the gauges prior to installation?

personally i think that is one of the most useless but cool to have features ever. Alls it does is distracts you from the road because you are watching your radio tell you stuff

Actually for me, it isn't "useless." I spend a lot of time in my car and there are many places I go where I haven't been before so the navi will help me. In addition, my stock HU sucks (most CDs make a clicking sound) so the new HU will resolve this. I don't know how this will be any more of a distraction than changing CDs or radio stations with my stock HU. Besides, I'm a gadget ***** and how I frivolously spend my money is my business.

And then the execs at Eclipse can say, "oh boy I can't wait for Pioneer to come out with a new navi. system so we can buy it." Thanks!

I think he meant the Mitsubishi Eclipse in the movie, not Eclipse headunits.

Can this be installed in the lower din or does it have to be in the upper din so that it blocks the vents completely?

My uncle's shop is installing it for me. I wonder if they will get the one you are talking about or the OEM part.

Is this the kit I would need to install it in the lower Din?

Why is it that the vents are a part of the dash assembly? And why does the Metra kit only allow upper din install?

yeah but you need the pocket also. my vents are separate to the dash kit, the metra. the metra has a built in pocket in the lower din so you only have 1 option.

Ok. Something makes me think they are going to have the metra kit. Are there any other drawbacks of having a monitor in the upper din other than blocking the vents completely?

well im going to put my tv in the lower din because it wont block the vents as much, is less visible to cops, and easier to use the touchscreen. however, it will be harder to see while driving.

How can you do that with the Metra, or are you modifying it / using something different?

OIC. So you have it in your possession but not installed. Very nice, you can read through the manual in excitement for your pre-Christmas day! What unit do you have, BTW?
