i'm thinking about replacing the inoperative bose headunit (suppose the problem is with my hu), now that circuit city offers free installation. what do you think about the following ones (i'm looking at below $200), any recommendation suggestion?

Sony CDX-F5700
Pioneer DEH-P4600MP
JVC KD-G700
Panasonic CQ-C3300U

and another question, is it important to have more preamp output, say 3 or 2 versus 1? maybe more preamp output will be important if i replace bose amp/speaker in the future?

 

2 preout puts is good enough. cross the sony out the list, and the panasonic. the only good one on that list is the pioneer, is it the premier verison? I know circuit city and best buy have some cheap prices, but try to stay away from there. they mostly have entry level junk that usually doesnt last.

 

It depends on what amp(s) he may be adding later.

Thats not the Premier version, but I agree to cross off Sony and Panasonic.

They make theyre money by selling the lower end stuff, and selling you the protection plan....

so is the premier version pioneer of higher quality, or just longer warranty? i found pioneer premier DEH-P460MP has almost the same feature as DEH-P4600MP, and similar price.

what do you think a decent HU would be/cost, excluding installation fee? say, if i keep the bose amp/speaker as long as they don't fail, what price/brand HU should i be looking for?

 

if your looking at pioneer id honestly start with the 7000 series and above. all depending on what you want though. btw it may be free installation at CC but they will overcharge you for the harnesses, dash kit, etc.

 

what do you think about PIONEER DEH-P7600MP? found people selling it for $199 "buy it now" on ebay (+$30 shipping).

 

not a bad unit. only down fall is 2volt preouts. what about a used 8500? im putting up mine f/s when i put my TV in this week.

 

What TV are you putting in Rick? You have a Gen 5 right? I'm browsing around right now trying to figure out the best way to put a TV in my GEN 5 and still have the radio and CD player.

 

pioneer avhp6600 dvd. talk to don.. hes the man. he'll get you a great deal on it. he owns a shop up north and hes the moderator in here. pm him about it. this unit has cd,mp3,dvd, everything you need to run a system.. not to mention a 6.5" touch screen motorized face.
