How does the Bose Preamp setup work?

From what I hear, as much as you crank the speakers up, the system prevents distortion of any kind. Is this right? I know that by adding a new HU you must add an adapter of sorts but what exactly does this do? How does it utilize the stock Bose speakers? Is sound distorted at all? Does it run the risk of blowing the speakers? My stock HU sucks anyways, so I'm psyched to get rid of it.

the distortion is supposed to drop but ultimately it doesnt. yea you need an adapter for the bose speakers to run on an aftermarket headunit, i believe it converts ohm load as well as power the signal wires from the bose system to allow it to run off the aftermarket headunit. kind of confusing, but yes use an adapter if that helps.

The adapter attenuates the high-power level outputs of the new HU to the levels required by the line-level of the Bose Amp/speakers. I just put in my new HU today using a Schoshce attenuator and it sounds great! Very happy with it.

Theres NO NEED for any adaptors. BLose is a preamp as is any aftermarket HUs preouts sections. The adaptor only simplifies and makes pretty what is ultimately just splicing the leads.

This has absolutely Nothing to do with the impedance level.

Could you extrapolate a little bit further? Does this mean there's no need to use a BOSE converter/adaptor? You mention aftermarket HU preouts, are you referring to running the audio signal directly out of HU's RCA preouts to the BOSE amp/speaker? I tried this and though it works, sound volume is decreased and gives an annoying "pop" when switching audio sources... Maybe I did something wrong?
