Opinions on remote start

I want to get my wife a remote start for her 2000 Expedition. I have a Compustar 2WSS on my car. I don't want to spend that kind of money on hers because she only cares about the remote start. She could care less about the brand or additional features.

I would like to get some input on what some choices may be. I know I can have a cheapo setup that is simply a piggy-back and uses the stock keyfob she already has for her car. I'd rather not use that because it has a very limited range which sometimes defeats the purpose of remote start.

Anyway, I know there are a few gurus on here that are dealers and up to date on the latest stuff, but more importantly on the things that don't work.

I can probably get into an entry level Compustar for around $300 installed from my sponsor, but I'd like to know if there is another option.

Serious input is wanted, so rif-raf stay out.

Thanks in advance.

Pretty much anything in DEI would suit your needs. But more specifically Clifford,Viper or Python. As opposed to Valet which only carries a 1 year warranty. Both are pretty much the same product, but Valet is their more 'generic' line. If Clifford it would be the RS1.1 and Viper would be the 160. Hope this helps some.

As for the entry level RS from Compustar...your sponsor should be doing ALOT better than that price, or you should consider other sponsors. Not meant as a flame in anyway, but I do sell Compustar and know the prices, and that is Extremely high for the product.

With that being said the install isnt that difficult as the 2000 models didnt have the GEM module yet, so less work there. Hardest part is the 555F bypass if used or easier the 556U. Neither of which is all that difficult, just time consuming with the F if it doesnt learn right away.

Hope this helps a bit.

Are you talking about the 2wfmrs? For $300 installed? If so, I wish you were closer.

I was looking at obviously keeping the cost down since all my wife cares about is starting the truck up on cold mornings instead of walking out there and doing it manually.

Well you did orignally say 'entry' level, so I thought you were referring to the 1W900FM-S , then again the price of $300 for the 2WFM-S is still high coming from a sponsor.... H3ll if you were one of my sponsored people then Id easily do the 2WFM-AS for $300....
