Enclosures for rear shelf speakers?

I have a '98 and I'm gettin a 15" Brahma in 2.25 sealed cubes (gross) with 1200w running to it. But heres my problem, I have Phoenix Gold Octane-R coaxial speakers (6.5") in the rear stock speaker locations. I have a SoundStream 480.4 amp feeding them 60wRMS each. After I put in my sub...will the sub over-exur the speakers? Can I build little wooden enclosures for the rear speakers? will that protect them from the sub, if they need that protection after all? Is there some other way of protecting them?

i have seen that happen in a few cars where the pressure from the subs would push the cones to far on the speakers in the rear deck. I wouldnt even waste my time building anything. i would just simply take those speakers out and sell them and get a nice set of components up front and give them some power After all a solid front stage is really all thats needed.

Use these. It seals the rear of the speaker. It also helps with the over extension of rear deck mounted speakers due to pressure in the trunk.

ehh, i don't think it'll pose a problem unless your trunk is completely sealed and the only way the pressure can vent is through the rear speaker holes.

(correct me if i'm wrong though )

You are correct to an extent. I went through two sets of 6x9's in my 3rd gen before we took the grills off and relized when the three twelves were at full tilt the cones of the rears were jumping out of thier skins. After this addition, no more replacements. Of coarse I abused the crap out of them. But don't we all?

BTW, hell of a nice pic. Brahma=

Yeah I decided that I'm gonna cut like a 6.4" port into the rear deck, but I'm still gonna leave my rear coaxials in...I like having voices fill in from the rear...and better for rear pass too
