why is my amp overheating??
#1
I have just installed 2 rockford punch2 12's and a power 400a4 pushing them. The 12's will play for about 10 seconds, and then the amp is too hot to touch!! why does an amp overheat? The guy I got the 12's from told me to wire them like this. He said run the positive on one speaker to the positive on the other speaker, and run the negative the same way, and then hook up as usual. Is this correct or is this my problem? Any help will be greatly appreciated~!!!!!

Actually, just thinking about it you have subs wired to the same channel or you have it bridged (has to be from the way you descibed wiring.)
you will need to either wire in series while the amp is bridged, or put 1 sub on one channel and the other sub on the other channel. not running the positive from one speaker to the other. but from amp to speaker.

Sounds like you have them running in a parallel config. If you have the amp bridged you are most likely running a 2 ohm mono load. To my understanding that amp is not stable to 2 ohms in mono.

ok .. just do this if they are single voice coils... bridge channels 1/2 to one speaker and bridge channel 3/4 to the other speaker should be 2(two) 4ohm loads which that amp should be able to do
