You'll need an aftermarket dash kit. Not necessarilty the GXE one, but the GXE one looks the best.

hey max5spd, how do you like the kenwood unit? everyone around here discourages it in comparison to the N1 and the eclipse unit, but i have sooo many kenwood products, id hade to switch over. in addition, no one around here carries eclipse (hate how the N1 covers the vents). also, dont you pass out from having TWO air freseners? one is almost too strong for me!

QMaxed03, let us know when you get this installed & how you like it!

Eclipse AVN2454 is another sweet HU. All you really need is wiring harness and after that, it's pretty much plug and play

I love it. I had more problems with my Pioneer AVIC navi than I do with the Kenwood. Zero problems on the Kenwood so far. I don't like flip out units. I think that they are more prone to break. I have lots of friends who's flip out units stopped flipping out and they all swear off flips outs (oddly enough, havne't heard complaints on Alpine units, only Pioneer). Still early for the N1, but I like to see a general consensus on flip out units that are older than 2 years and see how many are broken.

The Eclipse unit is nice. Less power on the preouts (but not by much), but for some reason doesn't fit right. There's another 5th Gen on the Org that has a pic of it installed and there's a huge gap. According to Pearl96max, the current version of the Eclipse AVNs are being discontinued so they are seriously discounted.

I also have Sirius so everything is tucked away nicely without being seen. Seems almost factory like.

The two air fresheners are only strong when new, they usually weaken after about a week to a bearable strength.

I love it. Zero complaints. There are many who argue against the quality of Kenwood, but I've used a lot of Kenwood gear that I've never had problems with. Ever since they had the DMASK+ headunits. Take what other people say with a grain of salt. Many people base their decisions on others who cannot make educated decisions. Ask Kenwood owners if they have problems. Most people who talk against it never owned a Kenwood.

Pearl96max is probably the only person who can honestly discuss Kenwood's quality since he's an installer.

i totally agree. i've had 6 HU's, 2 amps, various int. speakers. never any problems...my only concern is the install on an i35 without a mounting kit

Does that Kenwood have the Sirius tuner (or capability)? BTW, thanks for posting the pic of the i30t - it's the same color as mine and I think it looks good in there.

i hear that. i would rather have the factory nav for that reason, but it's too involved & the aftermarket has better features.

I have Sirius on my headunit. I needed an add-on unit for it.

None. Who wants to carry around a 4" faceplate around with them?

Actually, I think the flip out units stand out more because it sits higher so if you're walking by and the unit is on, it's obvious that it's a aftermarket headunit. To the average Joe, mine looks like a factory unit from afar. Especially with the navi screen on, I don't think anyone will think twice.

Yup, but the factory navi doesn't play MP3s and allow you to watch movies.

Yeah, that unit has a TON of features, but I don't really need to know that traffic is backed up on a particular route. Plus, the D1 is XM compatible whereas the Kenwood is Sirius compatible...Stern is going to Sirius and so am I!

I am going to file my taxes with H&R block tonight and then I am going to be picking one of these beauties up myself!!!!!!!!

Oh, max5spd, did you have this professionally installed of was this a DIY job? If so, how much did it cost?

Yes, Eclipse is also Sirius, although many of the major manufacturers are now going both XM and Sirius which is pretty cool. I think Alpine has a couple of new units that do this.

Busta, if you've installed headunits before, then you can install this. The headunit itself is pretty easy. The navi is a little more involved. I did all of mine by myself...twice. Once on the I30t and once on the 2k2. Took me about 4 hours the first time because that was the first time, but on the 2k2, it took me less than 2 hours.

Sweet. You just made up my mind! After seeing how it looks in that 4 gen. SOLD!! I was considering the Pyle, Kenwood, Necvox double din units. Forget it I'm going with the DDX9015 Kenwood w/ the music Keg, Sirius tuner. Thanxs
