Disconnecting Alarm

I know someone said you disconnect the black box under the stereo, but I dunno. There's a small black box that sits on top of a silver box. Each has 2 or 3 harnesses coming into it, and I don't want to disconnect any of it until I'm sure of what I'm doing.

Anyone know exactly what box and what harness I need to disconnect?

Anyone? I know it's only been 10 mins since my post, but I've got the consol out already and I'd like to find out before putting it back on to save myself the time of removing it again. Thanks!

What is it exactly that you trying to ultimately do? Why are you trying to disconnect the factory Keyless entry?

Because I will be getting an aftermarket one in the next few days

I understand the reluctance of people telling me how to do it for security reasons, but cans omeone at least tell me what exactly will set off the alarm?

Basically, I didn't even know I had one until the other day when it started going off for no apparant reason. I was messing with some stuff while the battery was disconnected, and when I reconnected it, it went off. I would at least like to know what I may have done to set it off.

Also, it's not a keyless entry system either. Or if it is, I don't have the remote.

When you lock the doors with either the remote, key in door or lock switch on the door it sets the factory 'alarm'. If you open the trunk, door(s) or hood it will set it off. There is absolutely no need to locate/remove it for a new alarm.

+1 on the fact that there is no need to disconnect the factory alarm. The new one will have 'factory arm' and 'factory disarm' outputs on it.

Im confused: So the new one you are putting in is just an alarm without keyless entry? Even those come with remotes. What is the point of putting it in...as Don said our factory alarm is good enough that all you are basically doing is adding a shock sensor and a starter kill...and you have a 99 so you have a chip in your key anyway. Might as well save your money for a better alarm with a lot more features.

The aftermarket one I get will have keyless and possibly a remote starter...I meant the factory one doesn't have keyless entry

Ahh so you lost the factory remote? I gotcha.

Either way, you dont need to disconnect the factory alarm...when the new one goes in they should hook up the factory arm and factory disarm and make it all work

Well, I got the car used a year ago, and it didn't come with any remotes...Is there any way to just get a new remote for the existing setup?

You can only get a new factory remote from the dealer or ebay, either way it has to be programmed to the car and it isnt cheap.
