Amp Settings for KX600.1

Hi all, need help configuring the settings for my Kicker KX600.1, first time installing an amp w/ subwoofer.

I'm getting my car back on Saturday and would like to know how to setup the Amp.

First off, I am hooking up the following to the factory Bose system w/ Nav.:

Kicker Solo-Baric S12L74 Subwoofer (DVC 4 ohms x 2)
Kicker KX600.1 Amp
R/T 793-12 Sealed Enclosure made of MDF with 1.00 cu. ft. of volume.

I will be wiring the subwoofer to make into a 2 ohm load. Basically, connect the 2 negatives on the woofer and then to the negative of the amp and the same with the positive to create a 2 ohm load. I have never done this before but that is what I have read and want to do. They say that by wiring the sub that way, it will give me the full power of the amp.

Now, what I want to know is how to set the dials on the amp. There are 3 dials.

1. X-Over Freq. (hz) 12dB/Oct from 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175 & 200.
2. Gain Low Level 170mV-5V & High Level 340mV-10V from 0-11
3. Bass Boost (dB) @ 40 Hz from 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 & 18.
And also a remote Bass Leverl Remote.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I will definitely post the pics once it is installed.

One last thing, I read on Cardomain that I will need a 4 gauge power lead for this amp but I got the amplifier kit that has an 8 gauge power lead for maximum of up to 600 watts, will the 8 gauge be ok?

For the people that have not seen what has happened to my car, take a look at the link below.

put it on 75 or 100... id use 75 though. bass boost leave it off. and for the gain id test it out because your running it with the stock navi. but either way, imo it should not be past 1/2 aka 12 oclock IIRC.

Slickrick, one last question. What is the Bass Boost for? Why shouldn't I use it?

I'm going with your suggest but just curious.

good question. basically it is 1 band equilizer set at 40hz on that amp. so if you have it on "3" that makes the bass at 40hz 3x louder which some people(usually young kids) like. however imo it creates an imbalance in the flatness of the sub at each frequency due to this. also it can easily damage your subs by sending the amp into clipping. you can try it out but if you do lower the gain when you do this.

It's not opened yet. I can return it. Do you think that it is a big difference? Is it really better to get a 4 gauge? I haven't opened anything yet because my car is still in the shop. What's your suggestion?

ok, get the 4 gauge kit for sure. no reason not to. and if you ever want to upgrade an amp for your interior speakers you'll need the 4 gauge there anyway.

It's just kind of a hassle because I ordered it from cardomain.com. I don't think that I will be upgrading anything else anytime soon. I don't want tremendous bass, just something better than the stock, which btw, I am leaving in the car.

So, if I just want to stay with the amp and sub, will the 8 gauge be good enough?

hmm.... you might be in for a surprise then. that amp puts out at least 700 watts rms. call up cardomain and tell them you ordered the wrong size, they are a very reliable place and will help you out without question. im surprised they did not recommend the 4 gauge kit anyway. imo id go with the 4 gauge but you might be able to get by... but id really get the 4 gauge.

Well, guess I'll have to return and get a 4 gauge amplifier kit somewhere else. Don't think that I can wait for them to ship the new one to me.

Do you have any suggestions as to which amplifier kit I can get that comes with all the needed wires to install the amp?

see maybe just order the new kit and then send the other one back in the box they send with the new kit. talk to them they are very flexible. or if not, go to BB or CC for an amp kit, although it will be a pretty penny for a 4 gauge kit from there.

i had this amp powering 2 12" kicker comp vr's and it was amazing. Puts out over 600 watts rms and i loved it. Deff go with the 4 gauge because if u are wiring the subs to use the amp to its full potential u will want to give it the power to use it to its full potential too. I recomend hooking up the bass know remote and leading up to the front of ur car. Leave it all the way down and turn it up just a hair so u get some bass. Leave ur frew at about 75 like mentioned and ur gain just depends on how loud u want it. Becareful because if u turn it up too much u will get distortion. turn the bass down on ur HU to like -2 or 0 and then make ur adjustments. Dont worry about blowing ur sub either because my frien has an L5 and he has a 2300 watt RF amp to it and nothing to worry about.

miss my system...it friend..so did 2 amps..

Hey guys! Just got my car back yesterday and installed the system. For some reason it does not seem to hit hard. These are the settings that it's on right now.

X-Over Freq. (hz) set to 75
Gain Low Level 170mV-5V set to 09 facing btwn 1 and 2 o'clock.
Bass Boost (db) @ 40 Hz set at 06
The bass on the head unit is set to 5 too.

Is it because it's in a sealed enclosure?

What will happen if I leave the gain up all the way? Will it hurt the amp?

Will post some pics tomorrow.

Have no clue why it does not make my heart jump.

Any help is appreciated.

P.S. Tried Hip Hop and Pop music, of course Hip Hop hits a little better but seems like it's not enough.

well one 12 in a sealed box will not make your heart jump unless it has a boat load of power . i have a feeling this has to do with you integrating it into the bose audio system.

set gains properly

eh one 12 should hit pretty hard I think its a matter of getting the gains set correctly. Idk I have never had a problem with my single 12 not being loud although it is hooked up to an aftermarket HU. No you won't hear it like 2 blocks away but it was enough to make me feel uncomfortable. This is also with only running like 250 watts to it.

see im afraid his gains are up way too high... i set my bros on like 4 (same amp) and he has 2v preouts. id check the wiring to make sure its in parallel or both VC's are even hooked up.

Actually, I tested the system again today and it sounds fine. I guess it's just the type of music I play. Seem to get a better response from some Hip Hop songs than others.

Thanks guys for your help!!!

Here are the updated pics of my baby!

id also "break" that sub in. IIRC, kicker says that in their manual for it. be easy wit hthe suspension for a few...and turn off that bass boost.

definitly put 4 ga in that bish- running the 8 ga could possibly damage the power supply...

Try sucking ice cream through a straw

Great amp, plenty of power and runs very cool. As far as the bass boost goes, i used to use it on occasion-never past the half way mark tho
