Compustar remote starters..

I know it's not a DEI, but here is the issue. I need the car to reliably start from a distance of about 2500 feet. The DEI systems seem to go to 1000' and thats it.

One guy I work with has a Compustar remote start/alarm in his Duramax pickup. I am not too sure on the model, but it does start exactly where I would start mine. These use 900 MHz, and the upper end models go 6000'.

Does anybody else on the board run one of these? Any experiences? I am awaiting an email back to find a local dealer and see how much these things run for. Like every shop I have been to so far, they probably won't touch it with the 5 speed. But us educated people know we got a factory neutral switch If they won't install, i'll do it along with a DEI 556U that I have sitting on the shelf.

Thank you in advance!

I have the 2wss on my car. It has by far the longest range I've ever had with a fresh battery in the remote. I haven't had any issues at all in well over a year.

But you know that the alarm had nothing to do with that, right?

possibility....it could or it couldn't have.... b/c autostart sometimes cranks and doesn't start, waits and cranks again...etc...possibility of overuse of the starter....but like i said...not definately it was the prob, but could be part of the problem.... =)

Sorry bud, but the act of cranking the car was gonna have to be done either way. In other words, if your car doesn't start on the first try regardless of whether it's controlled by an alarm or you manually....it's gonna have to be attempted again before you can drive off. So, if the alarm tries it 3X's or YOU try it 3X's, the starter doesn't care. It's gonna go when it's gonna go, and the car will start when it's gonna start. If a car takes 3 tries to start, it's gonna take 3 tries to start with or without the alarm. The alarm's remote starter should place no additional demand on actual starter itself than would you climbing in and turning the key manually when it finally does start.

ya i think i decided im going to go with a compustar as well

i can't find anyone else who will do a DEI alarm in a manual, so this place is gonna do the 2W900FM-AS for $475 installed

i think thats a good price, plus they do a lot of maximas so they should know what they're doin

exactly right. the remote start just triggers the starter wire in the ignition harness - the exact same way you turning the key triggers the starter wire...
