Have you ever seen a cop using X band radar?

Have you ever seen a cop using X band radar?

I have a valentine one. Since I got it this summer I have not once seen a cop using X band. Have you ever seen one? I'm thinking maybe it's used by low-budget precincts. Let me know.

This thread is going to get moved most likely but anyway I have had a valentine 1 for well over a year now and my friend has had it for like 3-4 years at least and neither of us have never seen a cop using X band. K and Ka are the majority by far. I have also only been lasered about 3 times. The cops don't have a big budget here in LA but we are by no means in the middle of BFE.

I just turned X band since automatic doors and I think maybe microwaves set it off but almost never is it a cop. Having it on made me never listen to it. Now I still don't pay enough attention to K band sometimes. Just turn it off in the setup menu thing when you hold the button down when turning it on. The instructions are on their site and in the manual. Ka however is most of the time a cop but I also set it to be more sensitive so I will hear them and never see a cop.

it depends on what state you live in. i think in texas they still use X band. most cops anywhere use K and Ka. you just have to see who uses what where and make sure whether or not the cops in your neighborhood use X when you have it turned off.

i have the x50 and i hate getting lasered. scares the crap outta me haha. i think POP has too many false alarms. maybe its the band or i just dont see them. as for X ive never been X'd by a cop so i have it turned off. its annoying having it go off every block cuz of a stupid automatic door.

all the cops do is scare you in chicago, and chicago suburban. Most of them just sit somewhere and scan forever. Also Most of the buildings also omit a K, and KA where I live, Automatic doors... Best thing to do is to scope out where you live when theres no cars to see whitch building is throwing which code. All cops ive seen throw ka in chicago land area. Thats also what my cop friend told me

I've done a LOT of travelling over the past few years and what I've noticed is pretty much what Ryan said - that X band is pretty much reserved for automatic doors, microwaves, certain alarm systems, and the like. I think the last time I've even REMOTELY caught wind of "Johnny Law" using X band was on a trip to Chicago. Going thru Wisconsin, there was a state trooper that 'pinged' me with X band. Thankfully, I had already slowed down about a mile or so beforehand (thanks to my Bearcat scanner).

There are 2 police stations in my area that I know bust out the X-band from time to time. Also the NH State Police used it as of a few years ago, they might have switched over completely since then.

Jersey state troopers seem to use x exclusively.. it's f'ing annoying because I can't turn it off because every time I see a statie he's on x.

And since this is a valentine 1 thread, is anybody else getting lots of false positives on laser recently? I know the third tail on trailblazers drives it crazy, but it seems like some cars headlights are doing it for some reason. Anybody else?

I've also seen that and I'm also interested on some info about the V1.

Wow, I'm in NY and I haven't seen X band in years. When I had my Escort Passport 5000, thats when I saw a NYPD cop use X band on Clearview Expressway. But now they use K/Ka band. The NYS Troopers use Ka band mostly, some user laser.

Willis, My V1 gets false laser readings all the time. Even when I'm not by SUV's. Although I did get hit the other day coming from Hartford with laser thats the only true time I got hit.

I use an Escort 8500 X50 (latest version), and I do see occasional LEO use of X-Band. I work in New Orleans and live ~200 miles to the east, in Pensacola FL. I drive home most every weekend. There is some X-Band use in the New Orleans area itself (confirmed with visual on LEO vehicle), which is really dangerous, since it's easy to dismiss urban X returns as false positives. I have also seen it used on highways in southern Mississippi.

Disabling X-band in the central Gulf Coast area would be a serious mistake. The 8500 X50 does a reasonable, though far from perfect, job of sifting out the false X responses.

I have the Passport 8500 and in my 3 years of having it, I have only seen two times cops in the Chicago area use the X band..

I posted above, but forgot to add a response to the "low-budget" comment. I had thought the same thing, but now I'm not so sure that some agencies don't keep a couple of the older X-band units on line for tactical reasons. They've got to know that most hardened detector users routinely ignore X-band signals.

Sorry for the long response. I like to be very specific in my answers on here. I would rather assume you know nothing and give you more detail than have to explain it again. I also tend to ramble on for no reason sometimes.

I need to turn X back on whenever I go on trips but I forget most of the time. In some ways I feel that if they want to bother with X then they can go ahead and clock me, but then the idea of the ticket, insurance costs, etc. comes so nevermind.

X band RADAR is an older band, one of the first bands when RADAR first came out if I remember corrrectly. That's why many of you don't see it being used, and why K and Ka are the dominant ones. Just FYI.

Ive travelled all over with my V1, it does seem to pick up a signal from cars behind me, maybe it is the headlights. They sure dont like the LED brakelights on the Envoy/Trailblazers! Cops seem to use whatever they use here in NYC, you cant turn off any band, you will get busted. I usually use it to confirm their location since they always use the same spots. Cops in NJ will hide in shopping mall lots using X band so you cant ignore it there either.

I've been considering getting the passport. Has it worked good for you? And do you know if Chicago cops or cops around the area use laser yet?

It has worked great for the last 3 years.. I have been hit with laser a couple of times within the last 6 months, so apparently they are starting to use it more and more around here..

My experiences on I-95 between SC and MA, only NC and NJ use X band. Most other states use K, KA and laser

My one and only speeding ticket was from X-band. Small town up north and I was the only car on the road. Kinda brushed it off since I hadnt heard of anyone using X-band in this state. Ive been hit with K, Ka, and Laser many times and no tickets, thanks to my X50.
