Best component speaker for JL 300.4 amp?

Need a little help.

I am running a set of CDT cl61a in the front doors. I got these speakers for the good price and now since I got the JL 300.4 amp I want to upgrade for better SQ. I have some MB Quart coax in the back, but I have the gain down on them, running off the same amp.

What speaker would match well with 75 watts rms per side? The CDT do sound good, but got to think something might sound better. Also should I amp the back speakers off a smaller amp and push the fronts at 150 watts rms each?

BTW I have a v12 Alpine amp pushing a JL 12" W3 at about 300 watts rms.

Thanks!

Why not go all JL? I have all JL (other than amps) and the sound quality is quite good. Check out my site for models.

I was checking out JL and wanted to go with the XR (?) model, but they did not sound so good at the shop where I listened to them. They had a pair of DA 5.25 Hex speakers that blew them away. I thought the JL amps were matched to thier speaker line. I will have to check the XR's out at another store. I just want to find what speakers match up well to 75 watts. I don't want to under or over power them by much. Am I wrong in my thinking?

The DA HEXs would defin ately be an upgrade from either the CDTs or XRs. But its also in a different class, especially price wise. Why is it that your looking at 5.25s? Rather than 6.5s?

Other companies to consider would be ALumapro,Arc Audio,Rainbow,etc..

The 5.25 were all they had on the board. I think the shop is no longer selling DA and they just had a few sets left. Will 75 watts be enought to push the Hex 6.5 or some of the above mentioned companies speakers? I figured as the price goes up the watts would too?

Thanks

Itll be enough, but they could take quite a bit more. As far as power increases with value ...not exactly. Alot of companies have lower ratings, others have higher to make themselves look better. My $1300 Rainbows only list themselves at about 130. I am currently running about 100 to each individual speaker. 100 to each mid, 100 to each tweet.

and my Rainbows are rated 110rms per side and the passives are getting heat from a 300rms x2 amp

they dont need all that to sound good- but just reinforcing the power handling comment....

Thanks for the info. I guess it is time to go and do some listening.

One last question...Since I am replacing the CDT's, should I gust put the mid in the back on each side, or leave the Coax in the back???

Thanks again for the help!

I appreciate it! You all have already been a big help. I may want to get some DA Hex 6.5 pricing. I plan on getting something come May. I also am a Boston Acoustics fan, but I think they are a bit overpriced from where I have been looking.

Thanks again everyone!
