thinking of cutting a hole in my rear deck

ok, bare with me as I try to explain this. I don't like how my subs sound when I put my seats up. I've moved them all around and the just seem baffled until I put seat down, and I don't like doing that, I saw where someone had made a hole in theirs and made a cover for it. I think cutting it and opening it up would help my sq. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks

eh, i did it with mine. i put egg crate foam under it and bought a bose cover to cover the hole. it got a little louder than when there was no hole but imo its not worth it unless you can get the rear deck back on perfectly if you put foam under it.

I did mine and it made a heck of a difference in sq. The bass was building up huge amounts of pressure in my trunk and my sound guy recommended cutting a false hole in the rear deck lid to relieve it. I used fatmat paste as a sound deadener to keep the lid from rattling.

IM gonna chop my rear deck up for the same purpose if i decide not to put my subs in the rear deck. I'll just make a new rear deck cover from scratch.

Got any pics of what it looks like? I just need an idea, I just don't want it to look bad. Mine just seems baffled, like it needs to breath or something.

I don't think I follow, the factory Bose system has the Bose grill so, you can leave that alone but have the hole straight to the trunk area, you can always do a armrest thing.

Did you ever consider that it's the subs that you are running? What kind of setup do you have?

no, I know its not the subs, because when I let the seats down, it sounds awesome, it just needs to breath, lol. thats the only way I know to describe it. I think I'm gonna do the armrest thing, and the deck cut out, just need to know how I'm gonna cover the hole.

I made an entire custom rear deck for my 89'. It was easy as pie with that car. The 5th gen is a whole other issue. I recomment not only using a sound deadner on the rear deck, but to solve you issue, I would start calling just yards and find a wrecked Maxima with the same color interior that was Bose equipped. It may cost a bit more, however, there is no modification that is needed and it keeps the stock deack look.

Check out yards within 50 miles, or however far your willing to go for the sake of ease. There is bound to be one. It will take about 1 hr on the phone. I wish I had taken pics of my 89'. Immadummy. I like the idea of making a port but would never do it myself due to security reasons. I am a bit fanatical about looking stock and hiding my junk from peering eyes. Good luck in the search and the project.

Putting the pics up in a few but 1 thing I forgot to mention was after you take the rear deck lid out, you may want to sound proof around the speakers. I redid the sound proofing in my trunk and now, even with the fatmat the dck lid rattles a little bit. Just keep this in mind.
