they're about mid level. the lowest level are the Punch Z's for those generation of speakers. the HEs went for $109 each back then, 200 watts rms, 400 watts max.

well they will take up less space than the 18 (if you're worried about trunk space). if i was in your situation, i'd get the 10s, put them in a 1.5 cu ft ported box and have it tuned relatively low.

i forgot the recommend enclosure volume though for being ported. i think 1.5 cu ft was the higher end of the range.

Thanks for the inputs.....He's got them in a bandpass box.I'll sacrifice the deep rich bass I get from the 18 for the two 10's.

bandpass box are crap. the frequency range on them are very slim, and it's generally focused towards the tuning frequency of the ports. plus it's very hard to hear the subst distorting in a bandpass box.

HE's aren't bad. They are a huge step up from the RFZ's that sucked a$$. Dump that Kicker 18 and put the HE's in a nice slot ported box side by side to take advantage of the "mutal coupling" phenomena and you might just be surprised.

want to expand on that a little? you mean putting the subs in a common air space?

You can do that or separate them either way. If you're going to have 2 subs and two ports, then keep the subs close together and have the ports towards the outside. If you're running a common air space, then have the port off to one side, bot between the subs. There's no resonable explanation as to how "mutual coupling" works, but you are supposed to get a slight dB gain by doing it this way....either sealed or ported from I've heard.

well if you're going sealed, i'd keep them in seperate chambers for the sake of their own good. if one sub fails, the working sub would see a big increase in air space and that can cause the other sub to hit its mechanical limit.

but with this mutual coupling, i don't think there would be an audible difference in a everyday setup. but if you're competiting where every .1 dB counts, then yes, i'd would look into it.

i got to look more into this...sounds interesting

You state a good point on 2 subs in a sealed enclosure. Mutual coupling will make a difference. From what I've read, you're looking at up to a 3dB gain in some cases. Normally this would be done by doubling your amplifiers power, which helps too. Do some more research on that, it's not easy to explain why this works.
