I'm thinking about the same HU! If I have to give up my in-dash 6cd changer, I at least want something that does MP3 playback, so I can just dump a ton of songs on one disc.

Any Alpine deck sounds good, and they last 4 ever. My 91 Legend has a 6 months old Pioneer deck that doesn't wanna eject CDs half the time. My 4 year old Alpine in my Max works just fine, my friend has one of the 1st Alpine CD players in his truck, its like a 87 and still works good till today ! I wanna upgrade to the LCD flip out CDA series Alpine on my car someday- been watchin Ebay

I have a CDA-1000 for sale. Flip out LCD. Slightly older model. Works well for entertainment/navi/whatever you want.

little too old school for my taste :P Thanx for the offer, I need something with a detachable face, works with my XM Alpine unit and has AiNET for my 6 disc MP3 changer. I'm looking at the CDA-1004- only draw back for me is that it only has one set of preamps and is low on power on its internal amp.

Lol. Everybody says that about the CDA-1000. Maybe I'll try selling it to a museum. I hear the Smithsonian is starting a car audio exhibit.

That is a good HU. I had a CDA-7998 for a while, but was not fully content with it.

I have run Alpine HU's since the early 90's. I use to say the same thing as you about Alpine decks. That has changed with the purchase of my Eclipse HU.
