Hello!

I am trying to add 2 12" subs and a good amp to my Bose.

After searching the web for 2 days now, I have come to the following conclusion:

SUBS: Infinity Perfect 12.1 ($190), or Alpine Type-R 12" ($140)... more inclined toward Infinity though.

AMP: Rockford Fosgate bd1000.1
or JBL BP1200.1
or MTX Thunder 81000D
or Alpine MRV-1507

... found all around $400-450.

Any recommendations?

Now, the problem:

I have heard horror stories about messing with the Bose system on a 5th gen. I was not able to find a clear installation procedure for just some subs and an amp.

I am thinking to pull the cables out of the Bose amp and woofer and reuse them (maybe except the power, as I will need at least a 4 gauge), but leave those 2 in the car, for the time I decide to sell it.

Any help on installation will be highly appreciated.

Also, I live in Connecticut. So if there is anyone out there who does this for a living and within a 100 mile radius, I will be happy to bring my car for installation (I will need a sub box too). Thanks guys!

Just go to your local Tweeter, etc. store out there
in Connecticut. There are 7 stores out there that would
be able to hook up your system right! I work for a Tweeter
store out here in San Diego, CA. Tweeter has installers
that will take care of you. As an example my best friend
has a 2K1 Infiniti I30T w/Bose system and we hooked up
a JL Audio 500/1 mono block amplifier (best one to go with)
with a custom box w/ 2 JL 10W3D4 subs. It sounds awesome
and interfaced beautifully into the Bose sound system.
Any questions at all reply to this post or

Thanks for your reply!

I will definitely go to a professional installer.

I am still wondering which amp to choose. Judging by all the online resources, reviews, etc that I found, it will be one of these two:

JBL BP1200.1
MTX Thunder 81000D

MaximaDave, do you have any personal preference between these two?

I will probably order one by the end of the day. As they are both receiving excellent feedback, I may end up flipping a coin =)

Either amp is good. Make sure the amp has a feature called
"high level input" so that you can interface it with your
Bose system. And yes I would have it professionally
installed.

high level inputs

Upon further reading, I found several reports by people saying that the JBL has tendency to heat up quite a while when under heavy load.

I will most probably buy the MTX, however it does not have high level inputs. I just got off the phone with their tech guys, who said that using a high-to-low level convertor will work perfectly.

I am inclined to believe them, however I wanted to hear a confirmation from a non-involved party. Thanks! =)

p.s. the JBL has high-level inputs.

the high to low level adapters are o.k. it just doesn't
give you the best sound quality and depending on the
brand of the high to low level adapter you might experience
some engine noise and or hiss. The best high to low level
adapter is by Monster Cable and Soundgate. Good luck
