oh crap I think I broke it

Ok so I was hooking up my JL 500/1 to my sub and i didn't unhook my battery cause i was lazy. I put in the RCA and the mono output wires first then I put in the power wire and then I was putting in the ground and i got sparks. So I thought that they had touched each other so I took them out and tried again got sparks again. So then I tried to put in the ground and then the positive I got some sparks but I decided ok I'll just finish this and hooked it up and turned it on. When I did that the Power light turned on but I got no sound from my subs and then some smoke and a burning smell. Does anyone know if I maybe just blew a fuse or did I just kill my amp?

gen3, dont be lazy next time and do it the right way, if your not gonna disconnect the battery at least take out your fuse! i mean now doesn't it make more sense to not be lazy and do it the right way instead of risking it , breakin something, and puttin yourself in a hole bcuz now you probably gotta spend more $$$ than you had planned.

Shouldn't I leave the fuse in cause it protects the amp from surges? I had the gains all the way down.

if the gains were all the way down, you won't hear your subs. try turning the gains up a bit and see if your subs play.

why is that? it doesnt really matter what you hook up first as long as its all right. When i put it in i usually start with pullin head unit and hookin up rca's and remote wire and then runnin power wire and then ground and then speaker wires and the puttin fuse it and its done? I dont understand why doing ground 1st does anything differently? maybe im wrong

Ground first shouldnt matter. Get a multimeter and test the RCAs at the amp on alternating current, turn the volume up and see if the reading on the DMM goes up correspondingly. If so your input is fine. Put your multimeter on alternating current on the (+) and (-) outputs of the amp and do the same thing. What does it read/does it go up and down with volume? If not, I hope you have warranty.
