Hi,
A close friend of mine had a sub/amp setup in his truck(Ford Ranger) for about two years and now he wants to sell them.

I am not 100% sure what exactly the specs on the sub and the amp are but

I know it sounded sweet when I was in his car. His sub pounded!

He has a 10" RF hx2 that was being pushed by an Kenwood Exceleron (spelling error?) that pushed either 500 or 600 RMS watts..
I don't know too much about subs and amps, actually, close to zero. He wants to sell me the amp and the sub, without the box for $275.
Is this a good deal?

I listen to mostly rap and I really wanted to buy a 12" and have it ported. If I buy a 10" and have it ported, would it sound decent?

 

Nope. First of all thats too much for that equipment used, second of all if your going to spend the money, decide on your own what you want and get that, instead of getting someone elses crap that they dont want anymore.

Get the model numbers and check around, without them who knows. Yes the rockford will hit hard, and if thats all your going for you might end up getting that anyway, but thats your call. Just that those are both mainstream brands from best buy/circuit city, nothing too spectacular, so if hes not including the box and wires and a bj, then 275 is too much for a rockford 10 and a kenwood amp. Get the model numbers, stop by some local shops to get some ideas. But dont let them rip you off, post here or get other ideas before you do anything if you have no idea what youre doing.

What he said. I would offer him $200 if you really want the equipment. If you can spring for a new sub and amp, I would do it. The HX2's are stout. If you want some 12's. I have 3 Kicker Solobaric 12's. If you want one, I would let it go for $150. Any they are brand new. (shamless plug).

 

yeah i wouldnt buy 2 year old equipment. thats me personally though.

Actually Kenwood Excelon isn't Circuit City/Best Buy, im pretty sure you have to be a real audio dealer to get the Excelon line. As you can see in my Sig I have an Excelon HU don't make fun of me it has 5.0v pre-out sub. I want to get a better HU and better speakers and better amps but that costs a lot of money :\

 

The RF HX2's r not a circuit city or bestbuy brand either. They may sell RF or Kenwwod Stuff but not there better products. The sound in ur max won't b the same sound as his ranger, but what kinda system can u buy for $275? And whoever was talkin bought a f***in PROFILE amp doesn't need to give u any negative opinion. And the guy talkin about sellin u a Kicker 12 for 150 is just tryin to rip u off.

 

I do know that the setup that my friend has ain't the ccrap that you see at Best Buy or at Circuit city. I'm still debating whether or not I should buy his, thats if I can bring it down to about $250. All I need to do is buy a 10" ported box for the hx2.

Thanks for your input. $150 is below dealer cost. Not sure how I am ripping him off. Please explain. If you want to prove that a dealer you know can get them for X, than hook this guy up. Other than that, there is no basis for saying I am ripping him off. Any proof? I have been here a long time and don't want one new member to talk down to me or about me without any support concerning a statement.

Just saying that my friend bought a pair of Kicker L7 brand new from a dealer around here for $245. Not trying to put u down, but don't think just becuase i'm a new mem doesn't meen i don't know what i'm talkin about. He was askin a opinion on what his friend was selling him, not for u to talk down about it and try to sell him ur stuff. Besides i would rather have a RF HX2 oer a Kicker L7 anyday. And that's what i'm figuring ur talkin about (L7), cause solobarics are the old old Kicker subs.

 

now way in hell a pair of kicker l7 12's are being sold at 245 for the pair brand (2k5) new from an authorized local dealer. also filtor1 is a good guy and not trying to start trouble. there is no sense in trying to 1up him by saying RF over kicker and whatnot. we could sit here all day and do that.

 

Thanks Kevin. At no piont in the thread did I discount one product over another. At no piont in the thread did I make a personal attack twards anyone. Including you. I never indicated weather you did or did not know about car audio related topics. He was however asking our opinions in general concerning his options. I gave mine as well as gave an alternative. You said I was ripping him off. Deflamatory at best. No real reason for that is all I am saying. And as far as how long you have been a member. It has a lot to do with it. Respect is earned. Acting like a punk tward other members also sets the tone for what others think of you. If you thought my price was unreasonable, you should have stated that you could get him a huge discount and helped him out. Keep that in mind is all I ask.

Well i wasn't tryin to start any trouble here. Sorry if I cause anyone any trouble. BTW slickrick, my friend did get a pair of L7's (2k4), but as far as i know since they made the new style with silver cone they haven't changed any from '04 to '05. They may have, i dunno. Maybe things are a lil cheaper up here n NC, or maybe he got a good deal cause i've spent so much $ and time at the shop.

As for minsbang, u got a good thread goin...wish some of mine i posted got as many hits as this one . I hope ur system turns out great. Personally i wouldn't buy anything used, but i would make an exception since its from a friend. Didn't mean to start a riot n ur thread. A lot of people have strong opinions on the .org...which i think is great. That's why i spend so much time on here. Let us know when u decide on somethin. Good luck with everything.

In 17 years of the 12Volt industry you could never convince me to choose RF over Kicker..But of course thats just me.

Solobarics are the "old" Kicker subs? Since when??? L7 IS a Solobaric.

 

I was thinking about the ones that were called solobarics. Not L7 or L5 solobarics.

 

250 is still to much for that, way too much, dont buy it

So technically you can get everything brand new for ~$315, of course there are some variables with model #'s and what not but why spend so much on equipment thats 2 years old when you can get new/newer stuff for around the same
