Depends on your budget. Big difference in price. I have always been a fan of Kicker. I have also heard a single twelve Eclipse in a sealed box that slammed pretty hard. If you are looking for pure output for a reasonable price. Go Kicker. My .02.

Which solo baric L5 or L7? I'm not positive but Kicker is for loud and eclipse is for sound quality. I might be wrong and if I am let the audio gurus correct me. I like SPL so kicker. Eclipse sounds great though.

It is my experience that the Kicker L7's are a cost effective SPL subwoofer. There are other subs out there. Just look around. If you can get a good deal on one of those. Go for it.

Like everyone else said...it just depends on what your are looking for, SPL or SQ? Kicker L7's and L5's sound like complete butt to me...however I'm an SQ guy!

if you just want the bass then go with kicker, but if you want an all around good sub go with eclipse, remeber brands matter too and eclipse is way up there

Aluminums are SQ subs that can get loud and handle fair amount of power. The Solo is a SPL pure sub-its only purpose is to move lots of air and get loud, you wont find this sub (even sealed) to play all genre of music well, or at least accuratly.

What they said. You have to evaluate what you want.

Is the L5 just SPL? I like the SPL but I do want some SQ.

Provide good clean power to the Sub and you wouln't notice anything. Many of the people in here are very picky, including myself. You probably would never notice the difference in your system. For instance, you could buy an entry level component from, say, Rainbow and pay$250-$300 and be very happy. Competitors in search of the n'th degree of clarity will spend on upwards of $1200 for Rainbows top of the line components. This is just an example. There are much tighter tolerances with mids and highs than there is with sub-bass freqeuncies, as they generally need to be directed to the listener, where the lower sounds radiate more freely. This is a relatively basic explination, just didn't want to write a novel.

They do. However, side by side, in the correct box. The Kicker L7's will get louder.

Both are great subs. I had a pair of Aluminum 15s in a ported box before I moved on to the Titanuim 12s. Iin a right box the eclipse subs sound very nice. As for the the Solos.. I had a pair back in the day before they made a square sub I liked those a lot as well, but I think they weren't quite as good when it came to SQ. Although they certainly more then made up for it in SPL.

Sounds to me like you need to hear both for yourself and make a decision.

-Red-, do you still have that 12" Eclipse. That was the one I was talking about earlier. Sounded really good. And he still had his trunk. Well at least half of it.

OT:Hope Tn is treating you well! Every time I pass by your old work I look for your car.

Hehe, thanks man. Was I running one sub or two when you heard it last? I ended up giving the second one to my brother in-law, along with my 2302 Kicker impulse amp. He seems to like it, my sister in law, probably not so much

I've been meaning to sell this setup and go with a single ID Max 12 or a 10 with a DEI amp, but there werent any takers for this stuff, so I figure I'll hold on to it a bit longer. Plus with my wife and I building a house up here, I try not to go on crazy spending sprees
Life here isn't too bad, I do miss Florida, but I like my job, and my wife seems to like hers so I guess we have to make the best of it. For now, appartment living sucks, but its only temporary.

I have 2 12" solobaric L5's wired in 2 ohm loads in a sealed box in my 89 3rd gen. I'm only running 350watts rms to each so their not pounding to their max, but they do hit hard and sound pretty good. But if i were gonna do it all over again I think I'd go with a better single 12" in a good ported box, infact I might this summer. Best advice I can offer is go with something you like the sound of and take the time to do some research.

Port the L5's. Tune to 30Hz. Get about 150 more watts per sub. Sit back and give your colon a deep tissue massage. I agree that a single 12" ported will give you a bit more output, but you already have the L5's. Use them, they will get very loud.

Yeah, I was thinking about getting rid of one and putting the other in a ported box tuned right, I would leave both in, but if I went ported with both I would have absolutelly no trunk space left. We'll see what the summer brings, for now their staying as-is till I get the rest of my system finished (components up front and a decent amp to push them).

I plan on doing something similar to that. I plan on getting two L5s and having a JL 500/1 to each. It'll be going into a sealed box too. DMCfirestar500 how big is your box? I have a 93 so I'm trying to find out from people who have those subs what it'll sound like. Anyone know a place that has L5 I can listen to? I'm tired of waiting for Circuit City to get them.

I'll measure my box next time I'm not parked out in the street. I don't like opening my trunk when I'm parked on the street here at school cause I live in the middle of the ghetto and peoples cars get broken into all the time. Next time I'm parked in the driveway I'll measure it.

Neither. Get an Adire Parthenon.

$5-8000, 6.5 inches of travel, and more output that 18 high end 18" woofers.

If you could afford that, a little creative application would be no biggy.

FYI, if you're interested I'm also selling my 15" Eclipse Aluminum with custom box. Can get you dimensions if you wish. It is a sealed box 1.5 cubic and the sub is a single voice coil.

Here's a pic
