8" midbass n doors?

Has anyone put any 8" midbass woofers n there front doors? I'm getting ready to start researching and shopping around for a new mid/high setup n my car and wanna go all out this time around. I've looked at Rainbow, Focal, CDT, Diamond, MB Quart (which i currently run). Just looking for opinions, and hopefully some pics of a 3-way component set up front. But anyone with pics of 8" n the doors would be nice too. Thanks guys...i'm sure i'll get some help on this.

I will be putting some in my doors this summer...I will not be doing this until July, so looks like you are one step ahead of me!

That I30 has got to have some SERIOUS imaging issues, though...

Sorry 8's have been done. I installed a set of 8" Audax woofers in the doors of my max about a year ago. They hammered. (car is totaled now) I had them playing from 100hz down. I can get some pics up if anyone is interested.

It wouldn't be very difficult if you got 8s that have a fairly shallow mounting depth (you'll still need to make spacer rings to move the speaker out) and are made for free-air use. Most 8s used for subs have a larger magnet and basket to deal with, plus most of them require an enclosure, and building a large enclosure in the doors will be a lot of work.

Nah, the 8's I used were very deep. (as far as 8's go) Also, as long as you make sure you seal any openings in the door with sound deadening, you will be fine. Just make sure you get an 8 with an adequate VAS. Then the speaker will be playing in an infinate baffle configuration. Mine sounded outstanding. I am going to try to post some pics. Let me see if this works.

How did you get the "sound dampening material" over the wires/plugs? You must have air spaces around them? Do you happen to have any very close up pictures?

I had 4-5 layers on the doors. I even ran the lock/latch rods through wire loom so that I could close them in. The only place aid was able to escape was there the flet met the window. These sounded outstanding. I never metered the doors, but with my experience, I would have to say that I was getting high 120's from the doors alone.

So with the 8s n the doors and the tweeters n the factory position on the A-pillars, the best soundstaging for the mids is the kick panel?

I have been installing 15 years, and I have built many award winning show cars including one IASCA Pro world champion. I know a couple tricks of the trade.

no features, but Andy Otwells's Dodge truck was in the finals coverage spread in Auto Sound and Security back in '99 I think. Also I got a real job in 01, so I have not created anything outlandish in a while. The last thing I did competition wise was doing the SPL thing in IDBL. I had an '88 CRX with a single quad coil Concept 18 in it. It was walled off with a 10ft3 box and 4 Concept 2400 watt class D amps. It did a 156 at finals, and placed 3rd.

It was either 98 or 99. It was a team RF red dodge fullsize. The amprack and sub enclosure were fashioned to look like the rear seat.

Well, it's been a long time since I've owned anything else really, but I love them. The 8s really pound...which I'm sure has a lot to do with the install. The mids and tweets are very natural...some say boring. They're extremely revealing, that's for sure. I'll never get rid of them until they fall apart!!

I really like the 2-woofer install in the doors. Maybe I'll have to try that in my next install.

Midbass would not sound good coming from the rear doors.
