I agree with going with an Alpine, I the 9825, and am very satisfied with it, I got it for $135. Go Alpine, you won't regret it.

I got a 9813 for 125 and its just sick, just look around for a decent deal on an alpine that has the features you want, you can usually find something like an older model cheap.

Why do you want XM? Sirius > XM.

If you could muster another $60 up, go with the 9833, you WON'T be dissapointed, although any of the other Alpine's listed here would work equally as well.

Yes, Eclipse > Alpine and Sirius > XM

What kind of stuff have you had in the past? What else are you planning on doing to your system? If the answer to that 2nd question is not too much, youd be very happy with either.

I prefer Eclipses from a looks standpoint, Alpines are too flashy. There's no Eclipse dealer I trust here though, so I went with an Alpine. Other than the looks of the head unit I couldn't be happier with it. Great sound and the interface is very simple for controlling all my gadgets.

..

I was looking at some Alpines here at a local stereo shop the cheapest one they had was just under $300 but they are really nice i'm not sure of the models. I asked what was the best deck under $250 there and they pulled out a Kenwood with a remote control + Sirius or XM, including the price of the deck they would install the mounting kit, amp, subwoofers for a total of $328.

Is it possible to hook up the audio controls on the steering wheel to the new deck I want?

SDP for life!! lol jk

Yes you can hook up steering wheel controls with the PAC SWI-X. Google it, its ~$50. Once software is out your steering wheel controls will be plug and play with 05 Eclipse decks, but not yet.
