Grrr Amp Keeps Cutting Out.. HELP!

stock bose system
i spliced into the rear speakers to connect the amp
its a sony xplode 1200 watt 2-channel amp.. 600 rms bridged
the sub im running is a Rockford Fosgate 10" HX2 (dual voice Coil 4ohms)... 1000 watt max... 500 rms
and well heres the problem.. the sub is wires in parrallel.. + to +... - to -
and well it runs fine for about 20 mins or so... but then the amp starts getting real hot and starts cutting in and out... and it's very annoying lol
also... the lights in the car seem to flicker.. any suggestions on what i can do to fix this??????

I've never messed with dual voice coil subs.... but if each coil is 4 ohm.... can you run the speakers 2 voice coils in series making 8 ohm and then wire the speakers in parrallel dropping back to a 4 ohm load at the amp.... ???????
ight so i wired the sub in series, - on the box terminal to - on one of teh coils, + of the box terminal to the + of the other coil, and then connected the remaining negative and positive of the 2 coils togeather..... so now it's a 8 ohm load
now im stuck... whats the best way to wire it to the amp now to get the most power..
i tried bridging it.. + of the box terminal to the + of one of the channels... then - of the box terminal to the - of the other channel... but there was no sound out of the sub?

If you are bridging the amp to essentially run it as mono, you will either be at 2 ohms or 8 ohms. And that amp doesnt have much ***** anyway, so youll get hardly any output at 8 ohms. Hence why I said the best bet is to run one voice coil per channel, so youll be at 4 ohms per channel, and you should get a little more output than at 8 ohms. But you still should get a new amp.
eh, i never did like the idea of running a coil off of each channel. the bass signal from each channel might be different. the coils would try to play different signals, and it might sound like crap. my $.02
what's that amp rated output @ 4 ohms bridged?

Whatever Sony says is way overrated so it doesnt really matter...i agree i wouldnt do it for my own system, but i also would know better than to buy a sony amp
LLzub trust me just buy a new amp and youll get 10x more sound out of that RF sub.
P.S. who sold you that one? Im assuming online? Because any shop or store shouldve known that amp wasnt right for that sub.

one set of + - on the sub go to one channel + - on the amp. repeat for the other set of terminals.
i wouldn't recommend this though, as i mentioned above. i would get a mono amp to power that sub.

DEF RETURN THE AMP ASAP. Their salespeople should have known better than to sell you this amp to run one dvc 4 ohm sub. Not to mention that Sony amps pretty much blow. Even if they just give you a store credit, just get a mono or 2 channel that is 2 ohm stable.
Glad to hear you got it at best buy and didnt just buy random crap online. At least you can get your money back.
