I purchased a DVD screen and player (farenheight) off an org member. Took it to a shop, Installed. Later that day unit stopped playing, took it back the next day they said they upgraded the fuse and adjusted some wiring.

Now I have a very bad whine comming from the car (day later), the whine is rpm based and is only present when the unit is turned on, I thought a bad ground but they said its grounded to the chassy, He said its probably taking noise from the alternator and they might be able to surpress it. I also noticed that the headunit where ever they have it drawing power from isnt a constant source, if I turn off the car (to the ON position not off completely) and re-start it resets the whole cd/dvd whatever? Arent headunits usually wired to a constant source?

Also I noticed the antenna comes up period, as soon as the unit is on wheater a DVD is in or a music cd is in it still comes up, can I easily wire what ever wire (I think purple) that controls the antenna to a switch so I can control it?

Any advice/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

 

Yes, the H/u should be on a constant source. If the place that installed this didn't know it, I'd be skeptical to let them try and fix anything.

Try sanding down the ground point to bare metal.

Is your h/u a pioneer? Pioneers don't have a feature to only put up the antenna for the radio; yes I believe you can wire it to a switch to fix this problem

 

I agree with your statement that they should know to put it on a constant power source. I think the first time they installed the unit they had it on a constant but now its not. I'm not too sure because the unit worked for a few hours before a fuse blew and I had to take it back.

Its a farenheight DVD/CD/mp3 player. I'm going to address the whinning issue and constant power first, I thought i was detecting a bit of attitude when I went in to tell them about my whine, either way my issue will be resolved but I'll do the antenna on my own, the less I can keep them in my dash the better, but I will try to get them to fix this problem, if it continues after that then I'll try and come up with my own solution/ask for help here on the org.

 

Adding a switch for the antenna is easy. I installed one on my Maxima, just to reduce wear and tear on the motor. I rarely listen to the radio, and when I do, it usually gets good reception with the antenna down, so I almost never put it up now.

 

I figured so, its a purple wire for the antenna? just cut and wire and setup on a switch, I'll mount it on a switch and put it between the heater switch for the seats. I agree I rarely listen to the radio and to have my antenna going up and down every time I turn on the car, especially when i go on road trips (Savavnah < Atl, Atl > Savannah) I dont want my antenna up while I'm going 70+ on the highway for 3.5hrs.

 

wait so for the antenna I would just wire the purple (assuming that is the power for the antenna to the positive for the switch and attach a ground cable and ground it)

 

I used an LED-lighted switch, so it has 3 prongs. One is for ground, one is connected to the remote lead from the HU, and one is connected to the remote lead from the antenna. When I push the switch, the LED lights up and the antenna goes up. I don't remember what color the antenna wire is in the car.

 

thats right I thanks for the info I know where I can get some 3 prong switches, I'll probably mount it in the change tray with some other switches.
