dont bother going ported unless you make it or have someone build it for you. also done get us wrong, its awesome that you want to do it right the 1st time. you should find out how close you are to Ascendant audios store and stop by to check stuff out.

i'd HIGHLY recommend getting a box built...either by you or someone knowledgeable. it makes a rather big difference in terms of sound from those cheap prefab boxes.

yeah i'll def have to check that out..but i reallllly would prefer a smaller box....not as big as yours but not too small..maybe medium...i can build it myself since i dont want to pay $125 for a box..is there any way i can build a smaller box myself for a cheaper price tag?

yea i really want to build my own box as well..but i dont know how to make it the right size, or for that matter how to make it "ported" i mean i can buy the material then measure it out by the cubic feet or whatever and then jigsaw a round hole... and then bust it together with some screws and liquid nails but "ported" and i dont know the RIGHT size .. lol im so confused

very easy.. a box design/cut sheet takes out all the hard work of calculating that stuff.

well i can fit 2 golf bags in my trunk still with my box...but if my box is too big then id consider sealing the 15 or porting a 12.

you get a cut sheet from the maker of the subs or i know people who can do it for you for like $6. i never built a box before let alone ported and mine came out ok with the design sheet helping me.

you won't notice too much of a difference between 300 and 400 watts. anywhere inbetween there should suffice.

Now I don't know what subs/amps to buy. There are so many choices. I'm not looking for something people can hear me 1/2 mile away, just something that lets me feel the bass in my car and possibly in the car next to me.

Ok, I'm thinking Atlas 15 now. What 300-400 watt amp would go good with it? I'm pretty sure I could build a box myslef with some nice plans.

yea man thats what i want..but that wont cost me $500 like i wanted before..so im going to save up....i just dont see the difference between the 15" subs..like RE XXX or Avalanche..or Brahma..which one is the best overall..by price..spl..and sq? because if i get a 15" it will be one of those for sure.

$326 for my sub plus $190 for my amp= $516. not to mention shipping would be substantialy cheaper because AA is in your state. so it would be like $310 for your sub.

yea but then there is the wiring for 60...the box materials for another 50 or whatever so thats like another 110 bucks..and im really confused on why your sub provides so much wattage for so little money

Hey, so if I get one Atlas 15" and power it with a 300watt amp, I'll be bumpin'? This would be my first system. What amp would you guys recommend? Would just about any 300watt amp by a good brand suffice?

Can I get a link to where I could buy an Atlas 15". I tried to search for one, but couldn't find one.

COOOOOL, now what amp to power that bad boy?

I would need an amp like this? 250W RMS (continuous) x 1 @ 4 ohms, 10Hz - 24kHz, 0.008% THD

I don't want to spend too much. I'm hoping to spend less than $200 for an amp. New is fine if I can get one that cheap. But, I might have to go used.

okay never mind...well if a sub recommends a max 1.7 cu ft box and lets say i get a 1.75....PLUS if i get an amp thats a little more powerful than the subs can handle..will the subs blow? i dont think they will since the difference in both the numbers aren't huge

thats too hard to tell. i can give my sub 3k watts of power if i want but of course you have to know how to use it right. i could also give my sub about 400 watts and blow it. its all on the install.

it's better to be slightly over powering then underpowering a sub. but again...power handling is box dependant.
