I've heard about something like this where the the way electrons repel off each other most of them end up on the outside of the wire as opposed to the core.

I've experimented with the cheap vs expensive went it comes to rca's though. I noticed no difference what so ever between a $3 set of generic rca's that were 30ft long and $20 set of XLN Monster Cable rca's (I believe they are 14ft;they're the ones commonly found at circuit city & bb). The generic rca's didn't have any sheilding and were purchased at a supermarket.

I highly doubt anybody would be able to tell the difference between a $15 amp kit and a $80 kit using their ears. The strand count makes the differnce mainly went it comes to its flexibility and slight increase in current flow. I've been told when it comes to speaker wire a high strand count would be an advatage with bening able to carry more frequencies. Of course if the strands aren't accurately "laid" this would be a disadvantage for sound quality by having the frequencies arriving at different times.
