Fan mounting?

I'm thinking of mounting a fan on my amp, its getting quite hot now that its getting warmer out and i dont wanna see how hot it gets in the summer. Anyone have any flan ideas and how to mount. I'm running a Memphis 500D amp and it is mounted on the back of the seats in the trunk.

Well, I would suggest two different ideas...

(1) Raise the smp off of the rear of the seat by using a longer mounting screw and some nuts underneath...this will allow cooler air to pass under the amp

(2) Purchase a computer fan or two and run them under the amp so it can better carry the heat away from the surface of the amp.

Lemme know how you make out!!!

I was having the same issue with one of my amps. Below are two pics. I cut the end off the fitting for the computer fan and ran the black to the ground and the power lead to the remote turn-on for the amp. That way it turns on & off with the amp. It's probably not the best way to cure the problem, but my amp hasn't cut off since ( over a year now ).

These pics were taken while I was testing everything. Wires are hidden now.

You can hook them up to any 12v power. I would reccomend wiring them to a switch just so they aren't on all the time, unless that's what you want. If you run them directly to the battery, they will stay on all the time unless you switch them off. Usually not a good idea. SEmy2K2go has a good idea but see if you can wire it to something that only comes on when the car is on. (cig lighter, amp remote turn on etc...) just my .02 though.

If you have a solid 12 volts at the REM, you can wire it to a relay that will turn off and on with the amps only. To protect your hu, use a 1 amp inline on the remote wire. On the relay use a diode across terminal 85 to 86, when the coil collapses it can spike back to the hu. for the fans a 7.5 amp fuse should do it for 16 awg wire.
