Newbie question on the design of the amplifier power distribution blocks.
Newbie question on the design of the amplifier power distribution blocks.
Well, I was looking into the distribution blocks on Crutchfield, and most of all of them have 4 gauge wire input, and multiple 8 gauge wire outputs. The thing I am concerned with is, that isn't it better to have like 4 gauge wire outputs going to the amplifier, or does it no matter when it comes out of a distribution block? All the distribution blocks I seen on crutchfield have 8 gauge wire outputs... Someone enlighten me
. For example, what if I use two 1000 watt amplifiers, shouldn't I use 4 gauge wires for the amps from the block?

might have to go with a diff maker... here are the JL ones

http://www.canze.org.nz/bcae/caraudio.htm, try this site. If your new to car audio andwant to learn about it, this site has everything you'll need to know. Its very informative and very helpful.
It really depends on the length of run of wire [most cars have the batteries in front, so I'll assume 12' to the distro block], the amount of acceptable voltage drop [most recommend no more the .5V], how many watts [I'll use the 2k you said, but if you are going to have an additional 4 ch amp for the front stage, you should add that in, also <assumes RMS wattage given>], and how efficient the amps are. Here you'll probably have to generalize, if using class A/B for the front, and D for the back, etc. . .[I'll assume 65% efficiency, since you're likely talking about class D amps]. Given that scenario, I would run 2awg to the distro, then 4 awg to the amps. However, it would not be a bad idea to run 0awg to the distro, in case you ever want to increase power in the future. Also, when running in excess of 2kwatts, your electrical system may have some trouble keeping up [I'm not all that familiar w/ the max/i35 electrical system, yet]. So, once it's all hooked up, keep an eye out for a distressed electrical system [battery keeps dying when you're only listening to your stereo w/ the car on. . .]
Hope this helps.
