5th Gen Din Kit w/ Pocket??

Has anyone with a 5th Gen Maxima installed a aftermarket DVD flip out screen with the pocket on top instead of the bottom. I was looking for a few examples to see what it looks like on top and bottm so I can decide how I want mine installed? Pix would be appreciated!!

scosche kit. however prepare yourself for some time to make the kit fit perfectly because it does not like up perfectly. you can go with the gxe dash kit but thats about $90 as opposed to about $15. however, its a perfect fit and color match.

^^^

Pocket can go on top or on bottom. I only paid $50 because I got it used (but in very good shape) from an org member who sold his Max.

EDIT: That pic was obviously taken during my amp install, which is why the car looks like sh*t.

It's pretty nice except for the gap it leaves around the stereo, since the HU trim piece won't fit. I know Irish used a trim piece from another mounting kit; guess I'll have to find one somewhere. I don't like the gap on the bottom through which you can see the wiring.

Yeah I like that kit but where do you get that pocket? Does it come with the Kit? The gap doesn't look too bad from the pic. Would everyone perfer the GXE piece over the Scosche kit? I had difficulty with the scosche kit when I first switch to after market, so I used the other kit instead. Another question which would be more difficult for a theif to get out? Just in case!!

Yeah, I'm sure everybody would prefer the GXE kit since it looks so much nicer, but the question is, do you want to spend $100 for one?

The pocket is technically a separate piece, but I think you can get both the trim (vents + ring around 2-din opening) and the pocket for ~$100. Check http://www.courtesyparts.com.

I used to have the Metra kit (different than Sosche), but it was way too ugly IMHO.

As anybody else will tell you, which dash kit you have isn't going to have an impact on whether a theif gets your HU or not. But, since you asked, with the GXE kit, the HU bolts directly into the metal brackets that hold it and the HVAC controls. With the Metra kit, the HU simply slides into the front, and can be removed without actually removing the trim. (This may vary depending on HU brand.) I'm not sure about how the Sosche kit works.

i actually prefere the metra kit. i looks alot better then i could ever get my GXE to look. the cd player would either stick out too far or not stick out far enough. the metra kit also does bolt under the vents so it is not as easy to steal as u mentioned.

yes the metra kit bolts in but the radio slides right out of its cage with that kit.

you can always redrill holes in the OEM Brackets with any other kit, such as slickrick posted above

Well I went ahead and ordered the GXE kit, wit the pocket from the 4th Gen max from Dave B because it has the door on it to cover the pocket. If i don't like it I guess I'll just change it.
