trunk vib ??s

My trunk rattles really bad, i called a audio place and they would install dynamat in my entire trunk for $199. But I could buy dynamat on ebay for half the price and just do it myself. Any suggestions? Also, is this stuff any good http://www.fatmat.com/ ??? To do the whole trunk would be about $40. Is this just a rip-off? Thanks for any help

I haven't heard of fatmat but edead is a good alternative to dynamat.

I would recommend eDead or Second Skin Audio any day of the week over Dynamat.

I used Dynamat Extreme for my back deck and fatmat rattletrap for my front doors. I really like how dead the fatmat made the doors. It was like 105 mil thick! Negatives include (possible smell in warmer weather) haven't had any yet, was more diffcult to cut and mold than the dynamat, and damn was it ever heavy. Get the stuff on their website called rattletrap if you want the most effective. Just ordered a Cascade Xmax trunk kit off of ebay. Looks like it is pretty good stuff and not asphalt based...

I used over 60sq ft in my trunk. The amount you use is totally up to you. 40sq ft will do it if you are wanting an average job. Do the rear deck as well and that # gets much bigger. I have only used Stinger Expert Raodkill. It worked wonders for my car and I would highly recommend it.

Buy it and do it yourself. I saved approx. $700 on mine. All you need is a wallpaper roller with a wooden handle and an exacto knife or box cutter. The warmer the weather the better. If you don't have a heat gun, use a hair dryer. Works just fine, and you should have one already.

192sqft to be exact. And thaks to you it was actually done in 2 days. I second the buying the actual roller from Dynamat. I got one from Lowe's that had a rubber "comfort" handle. It sucked. The handle wouldn't slide on the mat to get the air out.

I use Dynamat Xtreme. I've only got about 25sqft so far. Haven't had much time to take everything out of the trunk to finsih it, but i have another 100sqft sitting n the garage. Going to do the rear deck also. I have actually put some on the inside of the trunk skin.

is it better to just find the trouble spot in the trunk or just do the whole thing

definatly better just to do the whole thing...after getting the whole trunk done, u may need to still add more to the trouble spots. The torsion bars n the trunk r a big problem too. I had started a thread a while back n the A/V section on how to take care of the problem. You may want to go through the old threads and find it. I haven't tried anything they recommended yet, just haven't had much free time lately b/t school and work.

I have Dynamat Extreme through my whole trunk and on all four doors. If youre a perfectionist like me put aside the whole day to do trunk and it took about 5-6 hrs to do all the doors (but that also included putting in the new Type-R speakers. If you think you would be able to do it I say do it yourself youll save alot of money. Check out my Cardomain site for pix of trunk install, pix of doors to be loaded soon.

My 3rd gen was the same way. I even applied expanding foam and sound deadener to it. That trunk lid was hopeless.

damn, sound deadener and expanding foam didn't stop it? it's just the part where the edge meets the rear glass that's vibrating like mad. i've pretty much given up on it after hearing it rattle with two people sitting on it.

My trunk rattled like crazy when I had just two crappy 12's pounding in it, it sounded horrible like those cheap *** cars u see with there crap rattlin like hell (I hate that btw). Anyway, after just the Dynamat Extreme in the trunk it cut down on 95% of the rattling, I have a spoiler though and that still rattles a little with the bass up. Im trying to find a way to stop the spoiler from rattling, the rest of the trunk doesnt rattle though, of course I think its impossible to cut down on rattles 100% but you definately should try a deadener, if youre anything like me the rattling must be driving you crazy. After I installed the Dynamat Extreme in all four doors yesterday it made a big difference. Cut down on road noise, and made my bass seem alot deeper.I would recommend doing that if you have the money as well. Im about to do my custom setup with both 12 Type-R's installed so we will see how many rattles come out after that, so Im sure Ill be Dynamatting other surfaces as well in the future

Yea i agree with Dragon...eventhough i haven't completly finished my trunk. Everyone on the .org is always knocking Dynamat because its high $, and Dynamat Xtreme is even more $, but definatly worth it.

Ascendant...maybe u should try welding some flat pieces of metal to ur trunk to stiffen it up a little. The worst spot on my 4th get was the rear b/t the taillights. I actually put about 10sqft of Xtreme on the trunk skin itself. It worked really well as far as cutting out the noise from it flexing, but it still has some flex to it. B4 it looked like my sub was gonna debadge my trunk for me LOL.

Cascade is where it's at. I got one of their trunk kits from Cardomain for $50 bucks and used it on about half my trunk but I'm doing every square inch including as far back as I can reach in the quarter panel cavities. The cascade is super pliable ( I was installing at 11:00 pm and it was about 45 degrees out), it sticks really well (if the surface is clean) and cuts even easier. My only advice is bring some band aids. The aluminum lining will nick up your hands all night. I did all the cleaning with isopropyl alcohol (to avoid leaving any residue) and that gets to be real fun when you add in 50 (aluminum) paper cuts.

whatever you do dont get the dynamat in a can it sux big time! and is a rip off $30 a bottle that didnt even spray, I would get the dynamat, I personally used sound deadener which was in square pieces that I cut to fit around my rear deck and it worked great!

I have used Dynamat Extreme, Edead and Fatmat and I liked the latter 2 the best. I used fatmat for the rear deck lid but need to add more and Edead for the trunk. I originally had Dynamat Extreme in the trunk but it started peeling after about a year and a half (the people who put my system in did it and that blows). I did the Edead myself and man do I love the way it sounds. I can definietly tell the difference between the time I used the Dynamat Extreme to now with the Edead. It hits a lot harder. I get a lot of attention cause the car sounds a lot louder considering what I'm running ( 2 RF DVC's, and a 250a2 bridged mono). Want to get it metered to see what numbers it's putting up.

I used about 25 sq feet or just under two of the Cascade trunk kits. Good luck!
